To understand what we have been eating.

Almost every morning, there are bus loads of caged pigs sent to the slaughter house in plain view for passing cars in Thailand.

So you have never had to catch and kill your own.

Tried all those but still does not taste like food, just something to put on your stomach.

But what about the fun of the hunt.

Marinate itnbeforw cooking.

1) Try five spice powder, sugar, Soy sauce, and lime juice

2) Chili sauce mixed with honey and lime juice

Then cook as desired.

Cheese and milk is vegetarian. I think you mean it's not Vegan.

The thread title is Vegetarian. Is this wrong? Are you trying to go Vegan?

Your understanding of "vegetarian" is seriously wrong.  If something is made from an extract of the chopped up stomachs of baby cows, then it's not vegetarian.  That's what feta cheese (and most cheeses) is made from.

I stand corrected.

Mays veggie kitchen Suk soi 16 just down from Asoke BTS is good (vegan)

It's called May Veggie Home and it has recently closed in that location and re-opened in Sukhumvit Soi 101 near BTS Punnawithi.

What suggestions do you have?

I suggest you take a B12 supplement if you're going vegetarian for the long term.

Hate to rain on anyones (vegetarian) parade. But clearly, none of the posters here have ever lived in rural Thailand. Otherwise they would know that vegetables that reach the markets are laden with pesticides, herbicides, fungicides etc etc. (probably world record).

Guess what, "educated" Thai-Farmers have a patch of land put aside for their personal consumption, with no application of any "chemicals". The rest goes "to market".

Note: Without "chemicals" the yield of crops drops by 30%.

So, the consumption of Thai-Vegetables resembles a process that can be called "self-poisoning in slow motion". Enjoy your "veggi" meal. How about taking up smoking?

Seriously considering that....at 65 can't see it will cause too many problems now.

Yes, pesticides are a problem that, if we were a sane society, we would have fixed long ago, but your argument is like saying we should stop breathing because of the pollution. The benefits of eating veggies outweight by a lot the risks of pesticides. And guess what, the pesticides on veggies are also eaten by livestock, and end up in the meat as well, plus hormones and anti-biotics.

Yeah, some old geezers trying to neutralise the "sins of the past" by going vegetarian at the age of 87. And this with poisoned Thai-Veggies. Oh boy!

The main problem is: We have ceased to live in a "sane society".  The compass, called "common sence" has been declared "out of fashion".

Yes the society is insane, obviously. But eating veggies and fruits is the most sane thing to do, health-wise, despite the pesticides.

The challenge is protein. Eat a good diet just replacing meat with other high quality protein.

Easy to find here nuts, eggs, dairy products such as yogurt, cheese, milk. Lazada and some local stores carry a variety of TVP texturized vegetable protein (soy) products.

Learn to combine products with complentary amino acids, like beans and rice, milk and potato, etc. The right combinations result in the same protein quality as meat., or better.

Then eat veggies and fruits as normal.

Your bowels will more better and you won't feel as sluggish in addition to other benefits.

Good luck. It will take a long time to forget the sated feel one gets from the fat in meats.

And genetically modified to help. Crazy.

After 48 years as a vegetarian, I resemble a soybean.

My wife also uses mushrooms, tree fungus ("wood ears"), eggs, bamboo shoots and the like.  I am fond of various Indian vegetarian dishes.  And cheese.

Of  course this is not true of meat products. Crazy.

Most all food products these days are adulterated some way or another. Pick your poison.

BTW, there is a class of people who believe all the GMO ruckus is nonsense, including me.

We all believe what we need to believe when we want to believe it.

Good for you. Being a vegan or a  vegetarian is not difficult in Thailand.

Man has been genetically modifying animals and plants since farming began, they cross the best with the previous best and get better.
