You know what? Now there are no hordes of Chinese tourists spitting around. Taxi drivers don't just drive off or ask for ridiculous figures to driver you 1 km up the road, in fact you can just get in

I don't know about your country, but I know about mine and those i read about in the news, and it sounds to me the they don't make a new law every day, but more like twice a day.

And not only that, but when they announce anything, like for example the stimulus program in the US, completely unrelated new laws are hidden in the text.

You think it's better there?

move to remote location now and do only supermarket online shopping for food and necessities.

Work online or quit your job and live on savings

Out here in the sticks there is very little change to anything other than wearing a mask. Life goes on, same same. In the "red zones" of course life is very different.

Depends entirely on where you are and your lifestyle. (IMHO)

Not if they don't offer vaccinations to everyone it won't.

Without herd immunity we will just keep going around and around in never ending circles.

I'm in deep red and other than mask on every time I leave the room, disinfectants every 10 meters and a thermal camera at the entrance to the building my life is no different from before. Our company ordered work from home over a year ago and very little has changed since.

But of course there will be those who can't stand the thought of having to stay home, and would die if they could not party every night. They are surely going to be affected badly.

Ah yes... the swimming pool is closed. Not like I ever used it. But nice pool...

I will say the current state of Thailand has my Thai wife absolutely not wanting to return for the foreseeable future due to the incompetent and self-serving government.  My interests in Thailand have also waned significantly since the pandemic got underway for a multitude of reasons.  The reality that most of my favorite places around the country no longer look the same way or have the same vibe they did just a couple years ago is the one that hurts the most.  The challenge of international travel for casual tourism or even a month long trip back to Thailand has become a massive undertaking.  No longer is it a quick ticket booking via Eva Airlines, JAL or ANA but a huge hurdle to navigate all the Visa and ASQ requirements.  While we would like to visit her family in Thailand, I don't see the point in sitting around and not being able to enjoy the things we had become accustomed to enjoying in Thailand.

I worry that if Thailand continues with its current vaccination strategy, the damage will be done to the countries travel hotspots and it will likely take years to recover to anything that resembled pre-covid travel experiences in Thailand.

India is not that far away.  It's normal to worry, but don't let it ruin your life.

If Thailand goes pear shaped,

I'll move somewhere else.

One of the benefits of being nothing more than a long-term tourist essentially.

You talk like a former prisoner, happy that he can now step foot out of his cell...from time to time.

As surprising as it may seem, many people are asking more from life than being free "on parole"...and it doesn't mean that they need to party in bars every night.

If your life today is not different from what it was before, then I am afraid you have missed a lot of what life has to offer...

You know what? Now there are no hordes of Chinese tourists spitting around. Taxi drivers don't just drive off or ask for ridiculous figures to driver you 1 km up the road, in fact you can just get in and in the past year not one taxi driver refused to go, or refused to turn on the meter. Seems they are friendlier also, I guess not many non-asian faces recently. Beaches are empty and you can have them all to yourself. Hotels are begging you to come and give you discounts you could only dream of in the past.

The pandemic will be over one day. The ASQ and the rest of the hassles will be removed. But I sure hope the mass tourism that was here before the pandemic never returns. It's good to have tourists, for the sake of economy. But not hordes like before. I wish there are different kinds of tourists coming. As Thailand will be a very different place when this is over. And I think the change will be for the better. And not only in Thailand.

Each to their own. The closest I got to prison was watching Shawshank Redemption.

Definitely agreed.  No one liked the mass hordes of Chinese.

If the OP lives in a 'red zone then now might be a good time to consider moving to a different city/province, specifically somewhere smaller and more isolated.

This is a bit of a strange subject. I have witnessed being locked down in 4 countries so far and being kept out of Thailand for nearly a year. IMHO the situation here at the moment is a just a fraction of the lockdowns I experienced elsewhere. When I was in the UK the numbers were astronomical and over a 1000 a day dead for quite a while.

What we have here is, at the moment, nothing compared to what others have gone through. Testing numbers aside the numbers do not point to the rapid accelerations I witnessed in Ireland, England and southern France (yet?).

The major difference is here they don't mind wearing masks and thats a good great thing. But the lockdowns here are quite liveable without many lifestyle changes. In my other lockdowns the lockdowns were severe and very difficult to live in. Even getting OK food on the table was an ordeal.

Some countries are changing the goal posts already.

Granted, the naughty nightlife/massage scene is a mere shadow of her former self - not to mention that Beach Road is decimated. The restaurant and gym closures are a pain in the butt; however, I have more cash to spend on Tesco Fruit Pies, and my blood no longer contains 45% Kamagra Gel, and 35% massage oil.

Sure, had no problem getting both shots in US.

Can you really trust the numbers Thailand is reporting?

Mask wearing isn't the silver bullet it won't save Thailand, vaccinations would have done if they'd pulled their finger out and ordered early plus they are excluding farang, they don't understand that the idea is to vaccinate many as possible to make it more effective.

Anyway all countries are the same, all impacted, job losses, closures

What do you mean "If" ?  ????

Thailand went pear shaped in 2014 & never returned

That aside ....even if that or this & the way this was handled doesn't bother you.....

Thailand is no place for older foreigners unless you have for example  free unlimited X-military health insurance...

But it is a nice 3 month per year place to be ????

I was in the UK from last April to this January, worked on building sites all over the north west, never came across anybody who had it or knew anyone who had died of it in ten months, even people i came across didn't know anyone either.think those figures where slightly doctored..

You reckon the internet will still function if the country goes "pear shaped", or that anyone will want to deliver to you in your remote location?

None of my relatives over there have died of it.

I don't know anyone in NZ had it, but that's probably because hardly anyone has. If they didn't keep telling me how many in quarantine have it I'd think there wasn't any at all, given no one acts as if there is where I live. Masks- what are they?

I was in the UK from last March, until January, working for the Ambulance service, I met dozens of people with Covid, and one of my colleagues nearly died from it.
