Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted May 10, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2021 Thailand on Monday reported 22 new COVID deaths, its third highest daily total of the pandemic, and 1,630 new cases as the numbers of patients hospitalized in critical condition reached a near record level. Total cumulative cases reached 85,005. The 1,630 daily new cases number was a considerable decline from the 2,101 cases reported Sunday and was the lowest daily total in 11 days since the 1,583 cases reported April 30. But the recent broader seven-day averages of new cases in Thailand lately have begun trending upward again. The new deaths tally brought Thailand’s total since the start of the pandemic to 421. The only higher daily death tolls had been the high of 31 reached on May 3, and 27 tallies each reached on May 4 and May 7. Those numbers seem destined to continue growing higher. On Monday, health officials reported the number of COVID patients hospitalized in critical condition reached 1,151, with 389 of those on ventilators required in order to breath. That number has been reported as 1,138 on Saturday, then jumped to 1,442 on Sunday, and then was reduced on Monday to 1,151, one of the highest such figures yet, without explanation. The total number of hospitalized patients rose by just five to 29,376, with 1,603 newly released. The seven-day rolling averages for COVID in Thailand – a measure used by many health agencies because it tends to even out the daily fluctuations – shows cases trending upward to 2,032 per day as of May 8, while deaths for now had plateaued at 22 per day, according to tracking by the website Our World in Data. A government spokesman Monday said most of the new cases tend to be centered around Bangkok and its five adjoining provinces. "The good news is that new cases are decreasing in the [other] provinces," the spokesman said, adding that Thailand's overall COVID risk situation "remains quite stable." Chart below shows the total COVID cases and deaths for Thailand since the start of the pandemic, with the stats for total hospitalizations, critical condition hospitalizations, and the portion of those on ventilators shown in the light blue color box. The chart below shows Thailand's total COVID cases and deaths -- 56,142 and 327, respectively -- since the start of Thailand's so-called third wave of COVID outbreak at the start of April. https://www.facebook.com/informationcovid19/posts/322333476051650 5 3

Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted May 10, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2021 Is treatment for COVID-19 really free in Thailand? Despite the government’s repeated assurance that treatment for COVID-19 is free, not everyone is convinced. Copies of hefty hospital bills for COVID care are circulating widely on social media platforms. One patient was hit with a bill of Bt937,979 for 16 days in a private hospital, which included three days in intensive care (ICU). Another had to pay Bt989,670 for 17 days in hospital, 13 of which were spent in ICU. People who need COVID-19 treatment should therefore study their options carefully, including which services are free. (more) https://www.thaipbsworld.com/is-treatment-for-covid-19-really-free-in-thailand/ Note: The upshot from the details in the full article seems to be, if you as a Thai citizen pick your own hospital facility instead of the one the government assigns you, you're on the hook for a lot of expenses beyond a nominal daily room fee coverage. The full article is well worth a read. Those farangs who aren't covered by Thai government health insurance are on their own when it comes to hospital expenses. 4 1 1

Over the weekend, the number of patients hospitalized in critical condition took a huge jump on Sunday to a record 1,442 patients, up 304 patients or almost 27 percent from the 1,138 tally just the day before. That also was the largest spike in critical condition COVID patients by far since the start of the pandemic. "But the recent broader seven-day averages of new cases in Thailand lately have begun trending upward again." That is not strictly true, until it passes the peak a few weeks back it is still in a plateau phase and today's figure will create a downturn. Whether that reverses and passes the previous peak, only time will tell. The UK saw a delay of 18 days between the peak in infections and the peak in deaths, on a similar basis the death figures today would reflect the cases about the 22nd of April, so we can expect to see a continued rise in deaths before they start to fall. 1

TallGuyJohninBKK Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 (edited) Last week, the CCSA spokesman said they were going to update the current Mor Prom app to allow foreigners to register with their passport numbers (hasn't happened yet!). In the past, though, they'd talked about a separate app... Time will tell. The CCSA spokesman also identified Bangrak Hospital in Bangkok as a venue that will specifically be set up to handle COVID vaccinations for foreigners once those commence. To demonstrate that the results of original and ongoing clinical trials of licensed vaccines aren't bogus, fully vaccinated people arriving in Thailand can spend north of B50,000 and 15 days in quarantine. Give 'em something to do while the bars are closed...
