Looking forward to seeing the recreation of this horrific crime on the TV News showing Thai Style the perpetrators in action in front of the arresting officers.Would look good on the officers resume being party to such a big bust.

Been here 2 months already and it's very relaxing...just follow a few simple and widely posted PANDEMIC control restrictions like large social gatherings in public and consuming alcohol in groups. Is that SO hard? (All you alcoholics...just drink at home.)

Plague Island is starting to become a totalitarian state within the state.

They need to relax a bit before holidaymakers are returning.

Exactly. The petty polices mixed with cultural issues I think are starting to be a real downer & deterrent for folks wanting to have a good time here.

But hey, it's not like that will change things..

They forgot to mention if the soda water was Thai or foreign!

Definitely Thai.   Also, maybe they don't know that the nasty foreign beer, Heineken, is actually brewed in Thailand.

Just a simple fine wasn’t an option.

Can't just tell them to go home as there's money to be made.

Can't blame them there. Cops in US love to write tickets and provide the cities and counties with revenue stream.

All seems such folly. Begs the question to the government where are the vaccines?

Welcome to Phuket on the 1st of July with only permitted to drink with 2 people together.. and all kind of other rules it will be an overwhelming succes

Welcome to Phuket.

Enjoy your "long distance" drink but only with 1 friend.

Book your spot at the bar well in advance.

Staying over 30min will request 1 month in prison or 158,000Baht in cash.

Went to a Thai hospital with a friend here to get her mom's medication, and there were over 60 locals sitting, masked yes, but right next to each other waiting for a doctor visit. No two chairs apart like the banks have but right next to each other. Granted , a lot of Isaan people do not have televisions but some do and the news should have been passed around about the risks. I drive daily around my village and through cities and see no changes in eating habits, with up to ten or more family and friends sitting around sharing sticky rice and water glasses just like always. It always seems to be when these arrests are made, that there are foreigners involved. Do they bust a lot of private get togethers with only locals? They dodged a bullet last year with the amount of (reported) deaths and cases, where there most likely was thousands of more cases not reported and many more deaths attributed to covid which were passed off as typical pneumonia and sent to the temple for burning. I saw this coming again when Songkran wasn't again canceled, and now they are finding out firsthand how lucky they were last year and how stupid the decision was to open up.

Outdoor activities and exercise are expressly permitted...just not with more than 5 or 6 people and without alcohol consumption.

More Thais were arrested than foreigners...so maybe it's to let them know this won't be tolerated?

But if there had been no foreigners involved it probably wouldn't have hit the pages of ThaiVisa!

It is my opinion that there is no need to differentiate between Thais and foreigners, either in the title or in  the main text.

The same infringement has occurred in the same place at the same time and has the same legal significance irrespective of the perpetrators nationality.

In addition, it unnecessarily invites more discussion on issues of race than the central one of defying covid restrictions.

Probably no reason to differentiate between foreign and local alcohol either. Same as the nationality of the people, what difference does it make?
