CHIANG MAI, May 17 (TNA) – The biggest cluster of inmates with COVID-19 is at the Chang Mai Central Prison in the northern province where as many as 3,929 inmates had the disease.

Local authorities including Chiang Mai governor Charoenrit Sa-nguansat and Maj Gen Thanatpol Kosaisewi, deputy commander of the Third Army, confirmed the figures while insisting that the situation was under control despite the high number of infections at the prison thanks to systematic and efficient medical services.

Maj Gen Thantpol said that in the worst-case scenario, 2,500 other inmates were at-risk people and could be all infected.

I see the collective noun for prisoners must be a 'cluster'.

'as many as 3,929'  It makes you wonder if they pick a random number to make it seem more realistic? Or perhaps it was accurately counted.

Real life is more surprising:

The height of Mount Everest was calculated to be exactly 29,000 ft high, but was publicly declared to be 29,002 ft in order to avoid the impression that an exact height of 29,000 feet was nothing more than a rounded estimate. Waugh is therefore wittily credited with being "the first person to put two feet on top of Mount Everest".

cluster here , cluster there , clusters every blinking where .. surely might be nearer the mark to describe it as an enveloping mushroom cloud as that is what it is appearing to be ..

what do they expect when the people are packed in like sardines  nothing to see here all under control

Herd immunity... once they all had it, problem solved. Honestly,  what else can you do in overcrowded prisons?

Its getting out of hand am waiting for some positive announcement from TAT.. hello TAT ?..... ...

looks like they are almost at the herd immunity numbers

"Maj Gen Thantpol said that in the worst-case scenario, 2,500 other inmates were at-risk people and could be all infected. "

Guess no more reporting prison covid numbers... someone lose big face...  today's number back to 2k range...

COVID has been in Thailand for a year, and are we supposed to be surprised that prisoners in the jails have

not been infected by COVID until now.  Well PM and Thai government and jail warden and staff, you all dropped the

ball.  What are you going to do now?   Oh yeah,  you could maybe now, think of vaccines for all those who work and

live in the prisons.  Forward thinking.   right!

Geezer

The prison staff will get infected and spread it outside the prison. Too late to quarantine them, I guess.
