Australia donated 68 million baht for the vaccine rollout in Thailand. I wonder how that was spent?

When he realises he’s got to pay for them the offer will be rejected. Same problem all along with all vaccines, wouldn’t give the general population a grain of rice, Horrible C*#t.

And yet China can supply their citizens overseas with vaccines.
What else do you need to know about our exceptional nation and how we expats (don't) benefit from our country's largess?

So - the US will supply Thailand with vaccines, and then US citizens abroad will be placed at the end of the line to receive their vaccines after Thais get their shots which were given to them by the US Government???
Does that sound about right?
The Thai government has a racist distribution policy that will be directly supported by the US government as US citizens are put at the end of the vaccination lines.
This reads better then a Kurt Vonnegut novel - you can't make this stuff up!
Welcome to Wacky-World ????

Maybe you should write to Sen Tammy Duckworth. She's really smart, and there's more chance she would take an interest in our situation. Let's hope that there is an understanding behind the scenes between Sherman & PM.

The first one that made me laugh over  here was outside a travel agents - "We spek your language"!

If you are a US citizenship just fly back to the US and get your shots it’s that easy it’s not free the taxpayers pay for it

And will you pay the bills for the flights, quarantines , fit to fly certificates, Covid free certificates and insurances etc -  just say yes, it's that easy!

Good, they have a moral right after all the profit from wars over the last few decades, apart from when Trump was in power.

wonder how can you have made over 7,500 post and still can not get sarcasm, it's unbelievable  555

Sorry, the sarcasm doesn't work. I guess that I and a couple of others who commented are on a different wavelength as none of us got it. No big deal.

Pretty similar deal with the UK and the AZ vaccine. The only difference there is that overseas UK nationals are not mandated to pay taxes to the UK when living overseas, but one would have hoped that the UK government would at least ensure its citizens get equal priority, rather than at the same level as stray dogs. Disgusting complete lack of effort by the UK government to protect its citizens. And sadly matched by everyone, except for China.

Come on, my friend.

The US is entitled to do what it can to protect its people. And, it has done the very best job of that in the world. The UK is a close 2nd (just as impressive, but smaller population).

Please take your accolades about China elsewhere. I don't think you'll find many impressed with the country that has created this pandemic and effectively murdered millions (maybe 10s of millions) of people globally on account of their secrecy.

What planet are you on? Have you looked at the US Embassy website on Facebook and seen a happy citizen?

The US has done sweet FA for us US citizens here, with the exception of its staff at the US Embassy and their fellow Thai workers - all vaccinated with vaccines that we subsidized

China shows the US yet again how to do it

Does China’s benevolence in vaccine distribution for its expats in Thailand, absolve them of guilt for spreading Covid-19 worldwide?

In my book, absolutely not.

Don't understand. Most current positives are Indian variant.

Soon to be pushed aside by the new Vietnam variant. It's a combo. Indian and UK. Borrowed idea from Big M.

Coming to screen near you.

I wasn't aware that Thais were a race. Are Laotians a race, too And Cambodians? Because I believe those rules applied to anyone who was a non-Thai. Get over yourself, There are foreigners of all shades and shapes in Thailand.

Yes, it was not profitable because not enough Americans go to Thailand for business. Businessman make a bulk of the profits for most routes. Just having  tourists is not enough.

Also, Thai Airways is not allowed landing rights in the US for some years now.

Wrong the US TOOK THEIR CERTIFICATION AWAY.

Thai Airways isn’t even allowed to fly to the US at the moment, given the poor rating Thailand scored in a safety audit. This caused the FAA to downgrade Thailand to Category II, which means they can’t operate flights to the US. However, I’d keep in mind that’s more a reflection of the regulation in the country overall (or lack thereof), rather than Thai Airways specifically.

While China is supplying vaccines, America is supplying... promises.

China certainly seems to be winning the vaccine diplomacy war from where I am sitting.  The US seems to think people are stupid thinking their lip service is making them look good when their actions are telling a different story.

They are still only talking about exporting 80 million doses.  That's nothing.  The US is making something like 25 million shots a week, far more than they need for domestic supply.  They are also still hoarding raw materials as well. So they should be doing much more than just talking about shipping a mere 80 million shots.

There's news reports out on the U.S. initial plans for international vaccine distributions, and Thailand is listed among the recipients, but not seeing yet how many doses:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/06/03/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-unveils-strategy-for-global-vaccine-sharing-announcing-allocation-plan-for-the-first-25-million-doses-to-be-shared-globally/

"Approximately 7 million for Asia to the following countries and entities:  India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, and the Pacific Islands."

That's a list of about 16 different Asian jurisdictions among which about 7 million doses would be shared.  Hmmm....

Separate from the above, there's still another supposed 60 million AZ doses from a troubled J&J subcontractor plant, which was shut down for various operational misdeeds, where the feds are trying to determine if the doses are safe and uncontaminated enough to be able to donate. Not sure I'd be feeling real good about that particular additional source of supply.

Ya, I'm real excited that my U.S. tax dollars went to pay for and send COVID vaccines to all the U.S. Embassy staff in Thailand, folks who have in turn done absolutely nothing in the way of vaccine assistance for American expats living here.

How about this... tell the Embassy staff to get on planes and fly back to the U.S. for their vaccine shots, and then they too can return back to Thailand and serve their 14 day quarantine upon arrival!  ????

In this case, speaking as an American, the U.S. totally got owned by China when it came to "vaccine diplomacy" with Thailand.

Thailand is supposed to be an important regional ally for the U.S., notwithstanding its close ties to China... But the U.S. govt. and the State Department got totally left in the dust on this one, while the Chinese did what they've been doing around the world in a variety of venues/sectors to ingratiate themselves with the locals.

What could the U.S. Embassy folks in BKK and the SE Asian State Department folks have been thinking while they stood idly by and watched China leave them flat-footed.

Well, maybe it wasn't the diplomatic folks as much as it was just the Biden Administration. This report from two-plus weeks back:

U.S. diplomats: Send vaccine overseas now or China, Russia will win out

Exasperation among diplomats reflects global pressure on the U.S. to begin sharing some of its Covid-19 vaccines.

"Frustrated U.S. diplomats are pressing State Department leaders back in Washington to move faster on donating Covid-19 vaccines abroad, arguing that the Biden administration’s indecision is ceding ground to China and Russia.

While the White House has spent weeks debating how best to respond to pleas for Covid-19 vaccines and other pandemic assistance from more than four dozen countries, China and Russia have used donations of their homegrown vaccines to extract political concessions from nations seeking aid, four senior officials with knowledge of the situation said.

Two of those officials said China, in particular, is pressuring officials in the roughly 50 countries receiving its vaccine donations to recognize Chinese sovereignty over Taiwan. Meanwhile, Russia has used its Sputnik V vaccine to strengthen its relationships with countries in South America."

That's still just a rehash of the same announcement they have been repeating for several days now with a few more details added.  Still just lip service trying to get maximum mileage out of repeated announcements imo.

As far as I'm concerned, the US already lost the vaccine diplomacy war.  For months now the stories have been about China/Russia shipping vaccines abroad.  Stories of countries receiving the vaccines.  Stories of people getting the shots.  On the US end the stories have been how the US is NOT doing any of those things.  So that is what is burned into peoples minds now.

I haven't seen any prior U.S. announcement that confirmed Thailand was getting any specific number of doses from the U.S.  If there was a prior announcement of that, please go ahead and post a link to it.

In that regard, I would agree....  But perhaps better late than never counts for something.
