There's the matter of the B1m debt to be considered, also, that could result in criminal convictions.  Safe to assume that the government can blacklist anyone they want to.

As my other post you are wrong. Rent arrears is a civil offence, not a criminal one

I'm sorry...but which department is responsible for making "vinyl posters" of alleged doers of misdeeds?

Is this the Department of (nearly) Name and Shame?

Who is the section chief for the "black rectangles"? Personally, I think these are a little thick in the poster, but I am just an amateur.

I recall there being some revision of procedure a few years ago whereby the police were not allowed to parade suspects around with photo shoots. I mean you are presumed innocent until proven guilty, even here. Whatever the case, I know the elderly pair have their own story to tell, yes?

During a pandemic! Lots of landlords cut foreigners some slack when their jobs were lost due to Covid. They may get the pink panther movies rights to this story.

What Job could a retiree have lost?

The question is...why didn't these two men extend their stay before the 22nd of May, when they permission was due to run out?

Immigration already checked them in March, according to the article and knew their permission was due to expire on that day.

If they had extended, they would still be there causing problems.

People say they will never help............God reads every post!!!

If I saw some infants crawling to my mansion, of course I would let them stay even if they could not pay!!!!

if TVF members ran the world, everyone would be gone.

these stories are old hat....we know the worst falangs come here, so these stories will never end.   and then never end.............   these represent falangs of Thailand.   The 40 million sexpats............   i don't why anyone is surprised.

I think that was humor but hard to follow.  Like the energy though even if is over my head.

This story simply does not pass the smell test.

100% agree

Quote

They were named only as Rose and Rees and their nationality was not reported.

Firstly those names seem like they were pulled out of a hat, secondly they don't look particularly western by stature. Lastly since when have authorities held back details about nationality? usually it's in the headline when it's a Brit or American. They only seem to change names and hide nationality when it's the Chinese involved (if passed stories are anything to go by).

Quote

The owner of an apartment block who rents rooms for 50-100,000 baht a month to Europeans and Americans had rented them a room.

This part seems too specific to be random, so let me get this straight an apartment block owner, that specifically rents rooms to Europeans and Americans in Sathorn? if that were true that would be very unusual business behaviour for an owner operating expensive rooms in Sathorn. Why would they limit their clients to European or American? Makes no sense at all, especially since we all know landlords like this favour Asians in their condo's ????

Quote

Then one of the couple fell over and banged their head by the lift. The owner got them to hospital. They fled the hospital in their hospital clothes and went to treat themselves at home.

So one of the couple (that owed money) injured their head whilst in the lift while the owner of the block was there? that doesn't add up either. How many of us ever meet the owner of the condo blocks we live in? sus.

Again you are right Mike this doesn't pass the smell test, very fishy indeed.

Just goes to prove that once scum, always scum.

Since no nationality was provided are you tarring the entire elderly European and American community in your statement? including yourself? Unless perhaps you are not western? ???? that is a very broad statement.

The couple were arrested on overstay and handed over to the Thung Mahamek police for prosecution.

Now they will face a blacklist and deportation, suggests Thaivisa.

By the way they acted from the time they got here to the time they'll get escorted out it seems like Thailand was on a bucket list.... a free year in paradise.

I don't think you got a clue about the more upper class buildings. I am in an house in BKK is around 100k per month inclusive eclectic. Other friends are in condo's that go up to 80k too. So its not that strange its just that you have no idea about the upper class buildings.

Personally if i had to pay i would not pay that much for a room, but still plenty of expensive big condos and houses in the center of BKK.

Oh, please. I have been in many top end buildings, spoken to many friends who own units in them, and spoken to multiples agents about lease rates, as well as having spent time looking at high end units in Bangkok. It is always better to know something about someone, before just going off.

I was referring to the room. I know many nice condos rent for 100,000 and up. And many nice homes. But they are not a room. They are decent sized apartments and good sized homes. Details, details.

Guess you did not read my earlier post. They have lived in Thailand for at least 16 years. The report about their arrival in March last year is pure b/s.

They did not arrive in Thailand in March last year. They have been living in Thailand on retirement visas at least since 2005.

Where did you pick up the nugget? More b/s. Their names as reported are Rose and Rees. They are described initially as two men. Only later is the word couple used. Equally it could have been 'pair'. As far as I have been informed they were not a 'couple' other than being two pensioners electing to spend their retirement in one large apartment.

They are described as two foreign pensioners according to the post, also Rose is a women's name.  Can you show me where they are described as two men? source?

I'll try and make this short.

In Phuket, there is a small sub-office for immigration.

They used to advertise a visa run without you having to leave Phuket for 2500 Bt.

I used this service many times. Hand passport in on Friday get it back on Monday.

One Monday I went to collect my passport and was told it was in Bangkok.

Immigration had busted an off-duty immigration officer at the Sadao border with 84 passports on him, including my own.

Went to Bangkok and was interviewed. They said what I had done was illegal. Answered that I gave passport to a uniformed immigration officer, so, how would I know it was illegal.

There were four of us from Phuket that day. We were finger-printed, processed and thrown into IDC prior to being deported.

When the embassies heard about this, they created a big stink and we were let go, but, not after spending a few nights in IDC. The other 80 or so people were just given their passports when they arrived. It was my misfortune to be first.

After this episode signs went up in every immigration office and airport saying visa runs must be done in person.

Therefore, no, I don't consider I broke any rules intentionally, even if guilty of naivety.

Well if anyone hands over a passport to anyone, policeman or otherwise, in order to avoid legitimately applying for an extension or a 90 day report in Thailand then one must either be incredibly naive to think it was legal or else attempting to pull the wool of peoples eye to avoid blame in my opinion. As for those signs well not sure how long you have been in Thailand but it has always been my understanding it was always a requirement to apply in person, and that is decades, signs or no signs.

Not if the 2 names given in the OP are surnames, Rees and Rose are fairly common surnames in English speaking countries.

You broke the law regardless, someone with the same mentality as you would have every right to call you scum by your own standards.

I'm not saying you are scum but I am saying you should think twice before calling others such, after all as you just admitted yourself that you yourself ended up breaking the law (albeit unwittingly) sometimes people just get caught out by circumstance but keep in mind it could be you that people are calling scum on here one day.

I hope you get my point.

These people had no intention of paying the landlord, otherwise they couldn't have amassed such a debt.

They are scum.

Your point is pointless.

In this country it pays to know the law how well do you think that statement would go in front of a Thai judge?

It is your job to know what the law is and not break it. I mean come on you didn't think there was anything sus about your passport going off without you somewhere? I guess you don't follow your own government advice let alone Thai law.
