Web Cam Cover

Featured Replies

Anyone know where I can pick up a web cam cover for my laptop here in Thailand? Would prefer to go to an actual shop to check the cover before buying as my laptop has a very thin bezel so some covers may not fit.

Would like a cover for my smartphone's web cam too but my laptop is my main concern

Black PVC tape from your local electrical outlet (or Tesco) will do the job at very low cost for both devices.

Suggest you cover the actual lens with a small dab of Vaseline or piece of paper before covering with the sticky tape.

Or one of the "negative holes" that occupy your hole punch.

I think you are either "Punch Drunk" or you need to cover your webcam up due to excessive use!

????

Ask Mark Zuckerberg what he uses.

Some tape.

He also seems to cover the microphone.

Facebook is watching you.

Couldn't resist.

Seriously: some tape, stick a piece of paper on the center to protect the lens from possibly catching glue.

My Lenovo notebook has a built in slider. A red dot is watching me, not a lens.

Thanks for all the replies.

Great point about the microphone area too, potentially just as vulnerable as the web cam itself.

Adhesive tape has caused some issues in the past for me which is why I was asking about the actual physical covers you can buy that leave the lens and/or microphone areas completely clear with no adhesive tape issues.

Built-in slider, that's excellent!

Found a webpage with an article about the Lenovo laptops with built-in web cam covers, like yours maybe.

Great advice here.

Things like the tape (myself, I fold up a little bit of tissue as a pillow to protect the lense) is what I call hard solutions: the only way for someone to get around it is physical access.  When the doings get suspicious enough, I cut the electricity to the router.

It is interesting reading this thread, but basically I have always thought that people ere paranoid about covering their cams and microphones.

You say "when the doings get suspicious enough...". Can you enlighten me more? What sort of activities make you think that someone is accessing your cam?

I haven't observed anything suspicious and I don't have anything to hide, but I guess the thought of someone watching me is creepy.
