Thailand’s Insurance Association Warns against COVID-19 Exposure to Claim Insurance

Who in their right mind would intentionally get covid just to claim money. Of course there are some demented and strange folks, but this OP is like the warning of don't put a hot coffee cup between your legs, you could get burned if it spills. Stupid is as stupid does.

Lots of people would seriously consider it.

So, you have a large family and you are the only breadwinner.

Working in the black economy, you are now out of work, in debt from borrowing and your family is starving.

100,000 baht for their survival is not beyond belief.

And insurance is a business where they investigate and deny claims all of the time.

Well maybe my post was a little strong, but you understand the point.

So how do you deliberately go out and get it? Get locked up? Sneak into a construction site or hospital to an infected room? Sift through waste? Sneak over the border?

a Facebook user said people could earn 100,000 baht each if they were infected.

I'm afraid that's one very deluded Facebook user. These Covid insurance policies (I have one right here) compensate the medical facility for treatment provided, not the insured!

The other factor that appears to have escaped his attention is that Covid treatment is free for all Thais anyway. There's not a satang to be made here.

Visit Kap Choeng Immigration as many are currently forced to. Three confirmed cases there now.

I have two local covid policies. One pays direct to hospital and the other one is cash paid to me - 200,000 baht.

My GF has bought two policies that definitely pay the patient directly. My insurance broker suggested the policy when I ask about insurance for her. My Pacific Cross policy covers me.

I thoroughly questioned him and read the policy myself. It is from a legitimate company that provides other insurance as well.

It's not just a flat rate thing. The payment totals 100k ฿ maximum based on the length of your hospital /quarantine stay and/or death. One can purchase multiple policies for the same person.

I agree it's odd, but there it is. FYI.

I scanned the policy and can send it if you wish to see it. PM me.

Well the insurance companies wanted a statement, but I could never make one as no one truly could identify me because of all the blinding whiteness that came from my body.

Which insurance company is she with? I thought I'd saved an advert I'd found to look into it later but can't find it.

It's not a bad insurance investment as the chance of getting it eventually increase.

Which company pays you cash please?  This is a good option if we have to go to a paid field hospital or something instead of a real hospital or even have to buy oxygen.

Thank you

The 200,000 baht pay out is with  South East insurance. I’m not sure that they sell this policy amount anymore as it was popular some months back.

https://www.southeastinsurance.co.th/

I purchased the policy via Rabbitfinance  some months back but I’ve just checked and Rabbit no longer sell it.

This is the link I used,

https://rabbit.finance/expats-covid-center/

and when I bought the policy there was a section for southeastinsurance and in the column “pay upon diagnosis” it said 200,000 baht.

Sorry this doesn’t help you much.

Just read in the BKK post that an insurance company is canceling its policies and just refunding the days left on the policy. I never knew that was possible what a scam.

Insurance companies should be held liable for all Insurance they issue they can't just one sided cancel an insurance.

What i read is that there are now talks between Insurance commission and the company. Its SYn Mun Kong Insurance.

Its absolutely a scam to do something like this pocket money when its going well and then cancel when the risk is too high and only refund the remaining days but pocket the rest. Then be fair and return all money (still unfair but at least better).

I am pretty sure this would be impossible in the west.

Pretty sure they are reneging on a one year contract....  but bet your dollar it is supported by weasel words somewhere before you signed acceptance.

Yes its one year contracts, but the fact that they don't pay the whole year back just the days remaining is unfair. Actually its totally unfair to cancel a deal like this. Every business takes risk sometimes you win sometimes you lose. This is not fair. You have to honor existing contracts. I hope the government steps in.

Its not that they don't renew. I can understand that new situation demands new risk calculation on new contract. But old contracts should be valid for that time.

Anyway will see I am really interested because the legal side of this. I do know that it feels really unfair.

I run a business I would never do such a thing. Once a contract is made its binding win or lose. That is what doing business means taking risk to make money. That is also why i don't feel that people who have a business and make money on people are bad. Both sides agreed to something and the business owner was lucky skillful so he should be able to reap rewards. But when it goes the other way around he should take the hit too.

Same with hotels that are now losing money in the good times they made a profit and now they are moaning. Sure i understand the moan but you did not hear them complain when it went well. That is doing business any business taking the good and the bad.
