Foreigners aged over 60 in Bangkok to be given priority for AstraZeneca vaccine

Featured Replies

That is a misconception that if I can’t get 2nd vaccine, why bother with first?

the first provides you with up to 80% of whatever that brand is so vital to get first dose - worry about 2nd later

With a shortage, yes you will have to wait longer than you should. Eventually you get it and need to research when is it to get the 2nd for most effectiveness…

When did you get the Vax, what documents do you need to take and when is the last date to get one at Bang Sue? I assume it is a walk in facility. I will go as soon as I have your answers. Thx

I went last Tuesday but friends went yesterday, Friday. You need only a Passport and a pen. For over 75's it is certainly walk-in. I does not appear clear whether that is the same for over 60's. This facility closes on the 18th July-better to go as soon as possible. Good luck!

End of September at same place. I asked if there was a number I could call the day beforehand but , as usual, the reply was no problem. As soon as I get my 2nd jab I will post on here.

"Accelerated rollout" ....Who the <deleted> are they trying to kid. Probably one of the most disgracefully unorganised and unplanned vaccine rollouts on the planet and the rollout circus continues everyday. No vaccines, failed registration websites, no orders placed by this inept Government. Even the Thai over 60's are struggling to get appointments, let alone the foreigners and the CCSA continue to speak verbal diarrhea in regards to covid test numbers and deaths. Advise the Thai citizens of the real number of infections and deaths and then watch the panic. The Thai doctors are already alluding to triple figures or more than currently being released.

I live on KP got my AZ yesterday 6 hour wait but worth it no after affects but witnessed a lot of farangs been turned away not having a lease agreement on a property was a big issue however i sailed through it , all i had to show was my yellow housebook and thai pink ID card so all those who say having a pink ID card is a waste of time it might be where they live but not where i live i even get discount on the ferry, dentist and can walk into a car showroom and buy a vehicle without the need of an immigration letter best 250 baht i ever spent . My 2nd vaccine is 1st October at 2pm " Happy Days " I heard through rumour control that its possible every available vaccine was sent to the islands who have sandbox openings as 70% have to have at least one vaccine KP is due to open up this Thursday 15 July if there is any truth in that rumour its very unfair !!!!!!

Ryan, once you have had you first dose you will be on record & will be given an appointment for your 2nd dose.

I would bet that you get it, so do not preempt a sexual problem yet.

I went with the extended family in the village, no question that I would not get AZ as a normal que number & they have actually brought the appointment for 2nd dose forward

& taken the effort to ensure that we understand the revised date.

Two of my friends made appointments at hospital & was a 3 week wait, but on the day

turnd up 50minutes in & out incl mandatory  30 minute (reaction wait.

I left Pattaya at 8am and was back home by 1.30pm

If there are checkpoints that are enforced in the future, what route would be recommended to get back into Chonburi province?

A shipment of one million doses of the vaccine arrived in Thailand from Japan on Friday (July 10)

I'm sure that will stay in the confines of Bangkok.... so not much use to anyone else.

They need to stop using words to hide their excuses...such as 'Priority', 'appointments',  'Register' and 'Agreed to buy'.

The verbs they should be using are:

'Given'

'Bought'

'Here'

'Now'

Purchased'

'Distributed'

There is only one reason they aren't using them and he's currently in his pyjamas.

When they had a vaccine setup at Central Westgate Mall last week, they looked at me like I was from Mars when I stopped to try and ascertain whether I could also be included. In the end, I was sent away with a "not know yet" from the 1 nurse who seemed to speak a bit of English.

Same as me, I live in nakhon pathom,  one of the other deep red zones...

last Wednesday I went again [3rd time] to register for a vaccine, aged 62...

told to go away and wait, possibly October was the answer given when asked how long to wait

according to the conditions to get it you need to be a person with serious health issues to qualify, so don't hold your breath folks...

You don't have to have any of those conditions, being 60+ is enough to qualify.

That is a very good question, and one that needs some research through the studies that have been done so far.  At one time it was only for over 60's here in Thailand and the Sinovac for under 60's

I did find this from Australia, and its the most recent info

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-17/atagi-to-change-astrazeneca-age-rules-covid-vaccine/100222464

I also found that there may be problems traveling to the US if vaccinated with the AZ vaccine as it has not been approved there, but then this article alludes to a different view by the PM of Canada

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-astrazeneca-travellers-1.6071320

There are no vaccination requirements for visitors to the United States, and US residents traveling abroad do not need any vaccines to reenter the United States.  CDC website.  Only a negative COVID antigen test within 3 days of flight.  US State Department website.

This is great news if people are going to actually get it. But is this actually also a quiet way of them saying the Sinovac is not very good?

They are of no consequence whether Thai or foreigner, just talking to my Thai friend down here at Ban Chang, her vaccination appointment for today was cancelled 3 days ago, no vaccine available, not just foreigner that is unimportant here in Thailand.

Better to have got 7/11 to organize it. On Thursday they were vaccinating all ages including college age kids at the Hospital we went to. But they would not let any register now unless 60 etc

It does take a lot of effort to obtain a vaccination but, from my experience and living in Pattaya, it is not that difficult. Yes you have to travel to Bangkok but that is not an impossibility, taxi return plus waiting 2400 baht. The National Vaccination Centre at Bang Sue railway station is the place to make for.  It is primarily for over75's-farangs included, but it appears that one person under 75 can accompany you as their carer and also get vaccinated. It is all very well planned , very clean, uncrowded and fast. The AZ vaccine is being used. I left Pattaya at 8am and was back home by 1.30pm. The whole procedure showed Thai people at their best-well done to them.

On every day this week different groups of friends have followed this procedure with success., and gratitude.

You have a few days left to take advantage-up to you!

Is there any point going (are you excluded) if say 69 like myself. I could drive there with my wife 47 but obviously a risk travelling to a red zone if likely to be turned away

The local Government hospital. Try them

The National Vaccination Center at Bang Sue Grand Station is extremely well-organized, at least that is for Thai speakers at first. Eventually I figured out the system even though none of the TOT volunteers spoke English, but why should they? I got there at 8 AM and was out by 11:00, because things didn't really get rolling until almost 9, though plenty of people were already waiting when I got there. They/we were allowed inside which is nicely air conditioned and took our places in seats in front of the blood pressure stations. The paperwork is all in Thai, but there are half a dozen registration stations inside with English-speaking staff who took my form, told me where to sign, and entered it into the computer system. I was then directed to the bank of vaccination stations for the A-Z injections. Very smooth and well organized. It shows what Thais can do if they are allowed to do it properly. No pushing, shoving or jumping the queue as you would see in almost any other country I have experience.

Don't live in Bangkok....there is no "local health authority", at least not one that deals with foreigners. The local health authority was the group giving vaccinations in Central Westgate which is why I innquired as to whether I could also get jabbed. They cleary had  no idea of how to register a foreigner.

That's about the same as saying there is no local police force.

They checked my passport at the entrance and again at every station inside. Several of them didn't think I was 76 (I am), and looked carefully at the year of my birth (1945).

Unfortunately they don't have enough for people who now need it for there second jab.

These packed vaccine joints are likely to do more spreading than curing..

To little to late.

Leadership couldn't grasp the enormity of the problem earlier and now its in meltdown mode.

I hope they have enough ventilators and oxygen tanks!

Let's just save you a trip to the USELESS Thailand Intervac website.

From July 12 to 16 from 0900 to 1200, anyone 60 or above or with seven medical conditions can "pre"-register at Phayathai2 Hospital.

[This USELESS website previouslyalso told us to contact Samitivej Hospital Bangkok. Now the site tells us Samitivej is "fully booked"--BEFORE the "pre"-registration dates even start! "The next pre-registration will be open in August"!]

There are, of course, no contact details given for either hospital! (I think you should try calling Samitivej anyway. You might get lucky.)

Phayathai2 Int'l Hospital Call centre 1772 Switchboard 02 271-6700

Email <[email protected]> Contact form:

https://phyathai2international.com/en/contact

The heart of the matter: Siam BS has lived up to its unfortunate choice of name. I have talked to dozens of people vaccinated with AZ. All imported doses so far.

We should all be seeing the budget govt is allotting private hospitals for vaccination centres. (Seriously, whoever heard of Medpark or Vimut before this?!?) And why aren't they using plentiful govt hospitals in every province???

Wife and I both foreigners over 60 live in a remote subdistrict of Chiang mai province

We both managed to register on the "Wall Chiang mai site" on June 3rd ,I think that was the day it opened.

We received confirmation by autoreply which also said that we would be notified with time and date. Between the then and the first of July  I enquired twice at the local hospital what was happening. First time no one seemed to know much ,second time July 1st I was directed to what I assumed was a set of rooms were the were giving injections

Nurse came out ,I said we had registered and was  wondering what was happening .Was asked what Vaccine i wanted I said AZ they ok u are both over 60 but we won't have AZ until next week. I said fine, call me,and offered my phone number .She said you are my neighbor ,I'll come to your house and tell you when the AZ is available. July 5th she came to the house

we weren't home but neighbour told us she was there and wanted our phone number. Next morning we go to the hospital early morning to same set of rooms. Are told go to Tessaban next door. Go there make a inquire about where the covid vaccine venue is. Get directed to huge hall, full of medical staff etc people taken ID etc Injection and observation etc happening. Get interviewed about our health and registered bit of confusion about getting our names complete and spelt right. Blood pressure checked.

We both get our injections of AZ , wait in observation for 30 minutes another BP check given a card with date of Oct 26 for our second shot and a free packet of tylenol and we are on our way home on the scooter just 2 hours  after leaving. We photographed some of the doc's they kept so if we leave Thailand we have as much information as possible to prove we had the jab.  Maybe we are just lucky but it all worked as expected web site registration etc .

As I've mentioned in other posts ,I so often seem to live in a completely different Thailand than other posters on this forum. Whether its  my experience with landlords or business people I'm often humbled by the Thai people's  kindness and generosity .

My Thai friend phoned and they say only for 75+ who live in BKK. I am only 72 and live in pattaya so seems not worth the effort. If for 70+ I would take a chance.

Donated free from Japan but made to pay for it in Thailand.

Thailand first refused help from usa and Europe they wanted to do it alone and now look at the shambles this government has got Thailand into 3rd from the bottom of world charts in covid efficiency
