It has to be cleared by Thailand's infamous authorities first thats why.

"It would be good to know what the government has done to break through the bureaucratic inertia which saw the GPO sit for 6 weeks on an earlier purchase order for Moderna."

Still no signed contract for the main Moderna purchase, last I heard here... They were talking about early August...

There was previous talk here that supposedly 20% of the private hospitals' Moderna order was gonna be set aside for the Thai Red Cross....

Yeah, forgot about that 20%.

Some other coverage on this is very confusing,

is it 5 MM + 1MM for 6 MM, or

is it 4 MM + 1 MM for 5 MM.

If the latter, here's hoping that private hospitals only sold 4 MM contracts.

Reading all the other coverage it is very confusing who, exactly is funding these 1 MM doses? It sounds like the government is NOT funding these. So maybe this will come out of the private hospital purse or vaccine tranche?

"The GPO said on Wednesday it would sign the supply agreement with the representative in Thailand of Moderna on July 23 for the batch ordered for 285 private hospitals. It did not mention the lot to be bought for the Thai Red Cross.

In the meantime, it will sign contracts with the hospitals and accept their payments, a process expected to be concluded by July 21."

 Welcome to Vaccine Whack-a-Mole.

Everyone thanking the Red Cross believe that it's completely apolitical and will distribute the vaccines without bias.

Honestly, how do you believe that the vaccines will be distributed and to whom?  Do you think you'll get one farang?  How about the dirt poor rice-field workers across the street.  Fair and equitable?  Ah-huh.

When there are massive shortages and high demand, you can toss the terms "fair" and "equitable" right out the window.

There's always a couple of them...

It will probably go to the 1000 Red cross workers here in Thailand

This is really starting to look like a deal with China was made that Thailand will not pay for vaccines from other countries. Only China. Donations are ok. Could be wrong but just look at the History of false news about western Vaccines being purchased from this site. To many to count

Could it be because one of the top six wealthy Thais have major shares in Sinovac and they have already handed over the fully stuffed envelopes to the military megalomaniacs ruining the country who offer no evidence of the slightest concern for the general populace and it would be fortuitous if they all vanished in one of their quicksand boxes.

pandemics really bring out the best in people

Just imagine if instead of virus that kills 0.06% of those infected, it actually killed 10 to 20% of those infected.

This is an exercise in greed, wealth transfer, and social control.
A true pandemic up there in scale with the Spanish Flu would show you exactly what the majority of people are actually made out of.

Mortality rate is only a partial function of the virulence of a variant. It also depends on how effective a health care system is and the living arrangements of the locals.

Covid-19: Peru’s official death toll triples to become world’s highest

More than 0.5% of Peru’s people have died from covid-19, a toll worse than that recorded by the UK in the 1918-20 “Spanish” influenza pandemic...

Whether Peru is actually the hardest hit country is unclear, as several others show evidence of undercounting their losses, including Russia, India, Mexico, and much of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.2
