Do they know something we do not?

IMPORTANT: Looks like we will see a cancellation of many flights starting from Wednesday and lasting about two weeks. Bangkok Airways just posted to say they are only flying until 20 July. Exceptions are their Samui-Phuket (return) and special flights under Samui+ #Thailand

Several off-topic posts on influenza have been removed.

Also, this is a thread on the day's COVID cases reporting and related issues... not on political protests per se. So I'd encourage posters to be mindful of that in any further commenting here.

that will create a nice little DELTA cluster, and speed things up

Speed things up!!! What do you think this Thailand government has done to slow things down? Order more useless Sinovac from their buddies in China. Blocking the purchase of better vaccines? You dont see this? Sad

That'll put a stop to the upcoming long weekend break if other airlines follow suit.

If you open everything, they will be motivated to do just that.

It’s the same as if you have rent and food to pay you are motivated to make money.

Open everything. That will force them to focus efforts on vaccinations.

amen to that, it's too late for a lockdown, but of course, they didn't get the memo ????

BREAKING: Starting from 21 July, domestic airlines are not allowed to fly passengers out of the dark red zones. This includes Bangkok. Exceptions are Sandbox and Samui+ flights, medical flights and emergency landing. Other routes can only fly at 50% capacity

Open everything.

They are closing everything.

Tough to be in charge I admit, but they are doing the exact opposite of what they should.

If only they actioned this over the Songkran period for ALL domestic routes within the Kingdom.

Having said that, would it have made any difference to the infections and deaths we are seeing now?

Not much news coming out of Burma but things look really scary there. No vaccines, no tests, no oxygen, no healthcare, no information. Only the military have healthcare resources. Some are predicting 10-15m deaths.

Perhaps, if combined with aggressive vaccination numbers. We will never know.

But as demonstrated but your own experience lateral flow test do not work well in the initial stages of infection and also at the trailing end.

False negatives are common in theses periods. Meaning people will still go out believing they are negative. That is why they are not widely used.

I tested negative with both the official PCR test and the LFT. They are very widely used in the UK and are reasonably accurate.

It is obvious the vaccination number is low.

lockdown measures are just too late. and never a quick solution. The effect of lockdown  or preventing people mobility does not show result for at least 3-5 weeks of continuing isolation.

It will impossible to keep the people home for much of that time. They will need to close all schools, stop public transportation ,  street vendors, and government offices and much more...It is funny to read that official in the government will study how other countries managed during the lockdown. The answer is not pleasant.. The US was officially closed for 120 days. one barely can get enough food to buy.

Instead of doing door to door testing, they should door-to door vaccination until they run  out of vaccine supply

Go figure indeed...

Here, we've got people dying COVID who desperately want vaccines but can't get them.

In the U.S., they've got plenty of available vaccines, and people dying of COVID who have refused to take them.

There's something seriously wrong with that picture.

Why should the US taxpayer bail out Thailand?

Why don't the many Thai billionaires and the proprietor put their hands in their pockets?

The US has already donated vaccines to Thailand at the taxpayer's expense.

The more stringent restrictions I fear will be in play very soon.  With the new testing in the Capitol ordered by the PM with teams going from neighborhood to neighborhood it will soon be over 20K is my view.  The deaths as unfortunate as they may be are not just being located in the hospitals but within residences as well.  All we can hope for is that more vaccines make there way here and they vaccinate folks en-mass, however doing that takes time and now Thailand is way behind the curve on this.  That's my view, and no its not fear mongering or scare mongering, it is based upon reality and the current statistics, no matter how far out of sync they may be.  Stay safe folk.

To add some clarity to this sad situation, why not add the suicide figures to the covid figures! The MJ team have caused irreparable damage to Thailand and it's future, was anyone held responsibe for the collapse of Thai Airways?  No and there never will be along with these pathetic claims to be ordering vaccines. Good luck people....

Your last five words are part of the problem I am afraid. Otherwise I suspect more vaccinations would have been done by now.
