They have nothing to retaliate for. They already made the agreements public, which was a massive kick in the behind for the health minister. However you turn it around, it shows that he is a businessman, just that he's not gambling with the company but rather country and its people. In business, profits can rarely be made without a risk. So you take a calculated risk. Here, he took risk (not joining COVAX, gambling on single vaccine producer to save costs) which didn't pan out, but those losing out (or rather losing lives) are those who he is representing.

 

Regardless of anything else, he will be remembered in the Thai history books. And the description will not be flattering.

Funny, none of the Thais I spoke to actually want the Chinese vaccines, however they will now be forced to take them due to the government mismanagement of the situation, the resultant lack of choice, and the unavailability of quality vaccines.

 

Out of the thousands of Thais that work for me, only a few signed up to receive the Sinovac initially. Now the govt. has pretty much told us they will shut us down unless we vaxx all the employees, so they now no longer have a choice. Receive a Chinese vaccine or lose their job.

He'll probably be the next Prime Minister as he was being groomed to be before this crisis. If not, no biggie, he's still leader of his party, a billionaire and can do whatever he wants with almost total impunity. 

 

Since when has malfeasance, mismanagement and Thai lives ever affected the wealth or career of one of these so called leaders?

 

Suchinda Kraprayoon, the 1991 coup maker who was made to resign, even then went on to become rich after being contracted to build billions of Bahts worth of telephone lines in Bangkok. So they even took care of him after the fact regardless. It's a big old boys club and they don't care what the plebs think. It will take far more than just words to change the stratus quo I am afraid. 

 

I think the Thais are starting to get the joke now though as we can see from the protests in Bangkok over the weekend.

As of now, no clinical studies of the effectiveness of Coronavac vs. the Delta variant. How did you come by your belief that it is all but useless?

I don't think saving costs had anything to do with it, self enriching might have been the focus

I'm not saying that a one day drop is significant but you would expect to see deaths rise for a while even as infections rates go down due to the time lag between getting infected and dying.

Given that Thailand only requested 3 million doses  of AZ per month, it's highly unlikely that cost saving was the plan. Rather the opposite, actually.

At this rate of climb from the orange graph in Bkk Brian's post #2: June 1 with 2153 new cases and 253148 new cases in the last 49 days. Then from dy/dt  = ky.  And from the solution: y(t)=y(initial) e^kt. So the rate constant k =.0972 (as calculated from last 49 days. So in two weeks ,y(t) is y(63) then unfortunately I get 982,266 total cases.

Yep vaccs in Aus not going so well but 13% fully vacced still puts Thailand to shame with if I remember is around 6% fully vacced and vacced with the Chinese stuff.

I don’t believe it either. On the other hand, on those days when a new batch is received, the daily vaccination still stays in the 300k range. So it suggests that there is still some other issues holding up vaccinations. It maybe something as simple as they already know they won’t have enough to last until the next batch comes in and so operate at below capacity for a week, rather than full bore for 3 days and then nothing for 4 days.

 

Who knows? They haven’t  released any information on the vaccination program capacity other than the daily chart that shows them falling further and further behind their daily target.

YOu mean sharing alleged experiences. Claims that are not independently verifiable are worthless. Especially  suspect are big claims  such as those made by the poster here.

My unverifiable opinion is that those most easily offended are those most likely to be making dubious claims.

I am sure I am right to say that if you look back over the last week, there were figures showing that Sinovac loses 50% of it's effectiveness every 40 days against the Delta variant. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.
