PHUKET: New provincial orders have been issued to close more venues for sport and activities and to control the movement of migrant workers on the island from today (July 30) following the record new number of daily infections on the island.

The new order was issued by Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew yesterday (July 29) and publicly posted by the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department (PR Phuket) yesterday evening.

The latest order issued yesterday expands on the venues to be closed  and other restrictions as ordered on Tuesday, which saw all schools on the island ordered closed until Aug 16.

I don't think that the Phuket model is likely to be copied by other provinces?

Something of a rethink required perhaps?

A rethink of what? The infections are not increasing because of the vaccinated and 4x tested tourists.

Hopefully an improvement.  IMHO the big problems with Phuket were :

(1) Thailand locals from outside Phuket, from pandemic infested areas in Thailand, were allowed to enter Phuket.

(2) there was (and still is) not enough testing going on inside Phuket.  How can one evaluate the effectiveness of the sandbox test environment, without massive testing to check on the pandemic progress or non-existence.  With little to no testing, there is no accurate way to measure the sandbox IMHO.

Two things missing from these current statistics, that I would like to see are:

(1) what was the vaccination status of the infected ?  No jabs ? One Jab ? Two jabs? what vaccine?

(2) what was their greatest likely place of catching the virus (after contact tracing)?  Locals ?  International Tourists?

Purportedly the Health officials know the answer to (2) (greatest likely "place" of catching) and they announced it was locals coming to Phuket from other places in Thailand, and not from International travelers.

I think following up on those aspects would help improve the benefit gained from the Phuket sandbox testing environment.

The whole operation has been one of deceit and spin from the very outset, a lack of true figures and limited to no testing created a false reading from day one for the whole of Thailand.

Chickens have come home to roost......

They had so much hope on Phuket too ....

It should be renamed the Phuket Borebox, as apart from your hotel nothing else appears to be open.
