Phuket Sandbox: August target for tourists will not be met as pandemic rages in Thailand

Featured Replies

I saw this news earlier and really didn't believe it. On the one hand you have people clamouring for Phuket to be treated as a separate entity to the rest of Thailand with regard to freedom of travel to other countries yet here we have the unelected Governor tightening restrictions and effectively closing most of the facilities that tourists enjoy.

At least they've kept the beaches open and CP will make even more money from beer sales at 7-Eleven, Tesco Lotus and Makro.

I wonder if the padel courts at the Green Man will stay open? It's not tennis, it's not badminton, it's not a gym!

I don't know why people are so confused with 'public swimming pools' and 'hotel owned and operated swimming pool for hotel guests only'. Hotel swimming pools are private, they can not be 'public' as in many cases you have to be a registered guest to enter and its usage is under private ownership guidelines. Public has no general access.

Condo pools are an area that is open for debate. To me, the wording is clear, only public swimming pools are closed. Hence Condo pools, as long as they are only open for residence, remains as private. However, it is clear that many condo takes the easy path to close its pools.

Phuket has history to offer.

It once was a place to rock your socks.

I think that was after Chiang Mai cricket 6's in 1993.

I was so hansum.

Then Thailand went bizzzzzare.

The same thrills of cheating death that free climbing, base jumping, cliff diving and other extreme sports offer I suppose.

But so far he said that just 8-9,000 foreign tourists had booked for August and so targets would not be met

The targets set are always unrealistic tourism government propaganda.

The problem was the rest of Thailand initially came to Phuket... bearing gifts of Covid.

I agree that if you are looking for a very relaxing holiday, now it is the right time to go.
How ever i think that there are a few flaws in your "review" ????

It is always fun to break the rules until it aint fun no more.

Well, I am not at all for beaking rules. Unfortunaly for me I am just a little too old for such juvenile behavour. So, I figured that If I want to enjoy a glass of wine or a beer orelse I can buy it and consume it with my husband in my very gorgeous hotel room with view over the laguna and sea. I think some  people just live to complain even when it seems not so appropriate. I take Phuket any time with or without alcohol over being stuck in an Hotel room for 15 days in BKK. Sometimes it's worth seing the bottle half full than half empty. Enjoy life people, while you still can!

Once again Scam-Box, is counting Thai's and Ex-pat residence as tourist. It's all BS.

No choice in returning not as "tourist', even though living here as a full time resident of Phuket.

No choice in renting a hotel room even thought some have full time homes.

No choice in paying a Taxi 1500B fare (normally 500B fare) even though some own personal cars.

????

Same here, though my place is Bangkok, not Phuket. Not sure how long you've been living in Thailand. Me and my husband just over 15 years..anyway just wondering how come you still overtire yourself on the sometimes-not-so-logical-thai-ways????.  You sound a bit frustrated????. Really, don't be ????

Sometimes I do think it’s time to go….

However, I’m always hopeful for positive logic or common sense.

Although  I really do enjoy the muppet show!
