PHUKET: A 37-year-old man has been arrested for stealing food and other essential household items from the baskets on motorbikes parked in front of convenience stores as he had no money to buy anything.

The man, named by police only as “Mr Woraphat”, was arrested at a house in Saphan Hin, on the outskirts of Phuket Town, yesterday (Aug 2), confirmed Maj Chatchai Chunoo of the Wichit Police.

The arrest came after a victim filed a complaint to police on July 27 about items being stolen, Maj Chatchai said.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, with so many folks losing jobs/income we can expect to see an increase in crimes.  I keep reminding my Thai wife to hide her gold cause folks will start getting desperate for money/food/rent.

deport him to Australia...they have experience

Prancing around with bahts of gold on your neck and wrist is most unwise in these dire times. Invest in a safe deposit box.

Sad times. So many people in Thailand with no jobs, no money, no hope, and an elite who couldn't care less.

It's not too bad here really, but could become worse,

in the UK they would have stolen the motorbike too,

"Bad man.  Go hungry.  Jail for desperate hungry food criminals."

You can see where this is spiraling down to?  They need more prisons.  Actually no.  They need a human-shoehorn to pack more food criminals into cells.

They need food banks from the government to help people. The government is not doing enough in these times. They rather spend their money on tanks and other toys.

I hate thieves but the kind that steals food for survival is an exception (presuming they did everything they could to work)

Monday post in Asean now:

Thailand to export 44,000 tons of rice to Iraq - first in 7 years

Why you should help out your fellow Thai?

Gues they learned it from the rich countries

PAY OR DIE, no matter we have covid or not.
