15,588 people in Bangkok, tested positive for COVID-19 using Antigen Test Kits (ATK), out of 141,516 (11%) screened between August 4th and 9th, according to the Ministry of Public Health today (Wednesday).

The tests were from the third round of active screening, conducted in congested communities in the capital by the ministry and rural doctors. 15,074 were subsequently sent for RT-PCR tests, with 2.1% or 323 of them found to be in a serious condition and 69.5% having only mild symptoms or were asymptomatic, said Deputy Permanent Secretary for Health Dr. Yongyuth Thammawut.

The high rate of infections among those who may not have got tested otherwise, due to lack of access, means that the situation must remain under close watch and active screening in the remaining crowded communities is needed, Dr. Yongyuth said.

I guess that is in line with testing people with symptoms and without

"In people with confirmed COVID-19, antigen tests correctly identified COVID-19 infection in an average of 72% of people with symptoms, compared to 58% of people without symptoms. Tests were most accurate when used in the first week after symptoms first developed (an average of 78% of confirmed cases had positive antigen tests). This is likely to be because people have the most virus in their system in the first days after they are infected."

And they wonder why it's continuing.

It appears ATK tests are accurate when testing on Day 1 & Day 3 to insure correct results which are then backed up by PCR testing.

The numbers are truly staggering:

 - Since December 14 second wave, just shy of 800k Covid+ in Thailand, rising by some 20k per day. This includes prisoners.

 - ~210k+ in care; ~1k+ in ICU; ~1k+ on ventilators.

In Bangkok (not including adjacent provinces):

 - Second wave, centred in Samut Sakhon, 2,168 Covid+

 - Third wave (Alpha or UK strain) March 22-July 6 89,161 Covid+

 - Fourth wave (Delta or Indian strain) 108,575 Covid+

In the capital, we're seeing ~4k Covid+ per day. The numbers above do NOT include ATK tests.

Deaths so far (though in my opinion this is not the most important metric) 6,646 on August 11 rising ~200/day.

Will vaccines pull us out of this? Will more contagious, more deadly strains emerge? Or will the virus retreat on its own, as many viruses have, including Spanish flu, after a full three years.

This is not over by a long shot.

So this is the number published by MOPH for a 5 Day period only. Equal to 3,117 per Day

There must be Thousands more that have self tested, and that the MOPH dont know anything about that are positive.

These people will just test themselves and decide they dont want to spend 2 weeks in a Covid Isolation Prison if Positive.

Self testing is good if the people that are tested come forward when tested Positive.

However, with little or no assistance from Central Government, these people still need to run their Business, or go to work in order to feed their Families, and in doing so are just spreading the Virus.

There has to be a regime of disclosure on the self testing, and a good place to start would be all Pharmacies to record who buys the Kits.

OK ! It wont tell who is positive but will give indicators for Clusters Etc.

Good dose of reality.  I know most of you don't want to see the data and what it means.

Three of my relatives did this test and tested positive, they then paid money to get a different test and 3 days later one of them

died. The other two are at home sick, as there are no hospital beds available at the hospitals. We do not expect that they both will

survive, as the Mom is 90.  Vaccines would have been a lot better, but the Thai government insisted in not having vaccines

available, except for the Chinese version. Now it is too late for them. Disgusting!!!

Geezer
