Popular Post 2 is 1 4794
Should go to get vaccine (3 pcs of them) as soon as possible IMO. Goverment hospital or some clinic give that one. I think not get for free, last year my friend get that and was about 1000-1500 bth. But he is farang. 3
Popular Post Robin 1136
I doubt if you will get much for free in Thailand. Most hospitals should be able to give you a Rabies vaccine if you pay. Not too expensive if I remember. Cheaper than getting Rabies. Most dogs in Thailand that have owners are vaccinated against Rabies as government vets do this cheaply. Dog migh have a sting round its neck with a small blue badge attached. As for Soi Dogs, who knows. Best avoided. I have been told that Rabies vac. as given by hospitals is not complete protection againts Rabies, but will give you longer to get to a hospital and start the proper treatment. Vey unpleasant so I hear. Thai Red Cross centre in Bangkok, near the snake farm, will give most vaccinations as cheaply as anywhere
Popular Post internationalism 8282
at private I was paying around 400b per shot, and 5 is needed. At the government hospital, local clinic, probably it would be about half price
samtab 377
Anybody knows where to get it cheap around Pattaya/chonburi ? I will pay it for a Thai and would prefer to avoid a big hospital... 1
Popular Post LomSak27 6750
I do not think you will find it free, but you are going to want to get the set. Note, their is rabies in Thailand, and locals feel it is under reported. As Rabies is 100% fatal, and a horrible way to die, buy the vaccine. 11 minutes ago, Robin said: I have been told that Rabies vac. as given by hospitals is not complete protection againts Rabies, but will give you longer to get to a hospital and start the proper treatment. It is more a testing conundrum. A number of medical techs feel the pre vaccine does give complete protection, but there is no way to ethically test for that on a real living subject, so.
Popular Post jak2002003 7439
Thai health care for Thai people is free at the government hospitals. If someone is asking you for money so they can get the rabies shots after getting bitten...they are lying to you. I got them myself as a farang at a government hospital. Only just over 1000 Baht for several injections and antibiotics.
Popular Post maechanman 111
I got bit by a dog here a few years back and needed a course of 4 injections, went to Pattaya City Hospital in Soi Buakhoa as I live nearby and they cleaned the wound and gave me the first jab. From memory it was about 500 Baht and so were the two subsequent jabs. I was in Buriram when the last one was due and the only place that had the vaccine was Buriram Hospital,I had to wait about an hour but the shot was only 20 Baht. I highly doubt you'll find anywhere that's free but if you don't mind waiting then use a state hospital.

Preexposure vaccinations don't eliminate the need for post exposure vaccinations. I believe there is no need for preexposure vaccinations in Thailand for the average person because good quality post-exposure vaccinations are readily available. Based on reading info on this site: https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/specific_groups/travelers/pre-exposure_vaccinations.html "Preexposure prophylaxis may also protect people whose postexposure therapy is delayed and provide protection to people who are at risk for unapparent exposures to rabies.Although preexposure vaccination does not eliminate the need for additional therapy after a rabies exposure, it simplifies management by eliminating the need for rabies immune globulin and decreasing the number of doses of vaccine needed. This is of particular importance for persons at high risk for exposure to rabies in areas where immunizing products might not be available or where lesser quality biologics might be used which would place the exposed person at increased risk for adverse events." 3

Popular Post chalawaan 3098
Didn't bother to read anything but the headline, however if you think you have rabies, and you're pissing about asking for a freebie? 555. They're warming the temple furnace as we speak. Also, you better look into tetanus shots, oh, it just got dearer, but what value do you put on living? Sheryl 37176
Free for a Thai at the government hospital where they are registered and yes, it is important if bitten by a stray dog (or any dog nto known for sure to be fully vaccinated). Rabies is endemic in Thailand. 1

Requires a doctor's consultation to go through to insurance. The hospital on Ko Samet told us that if you get a bite from a dog, cat, monkey whatever, you need to get treatment immediately, or within 24 hours. So it's probably best not to start fannying around comparing prices, tbh.
Speedo1968 816
I would also go to hospital if scratched by a dog. for at least antibiotic jabs. I was scratched on the ankle by a young playful dog that I knew, no loose skin or blood. I wiped the scratch with disinfectant and thought nothing more about it. The next day I went to my local clinic a few hundred metres away as the scratch area was very painful. I have allergies to many antibiotics even the ones they had that I hadn't used before. I ended up with a very high level of infection that attacked my Achilles tendon leaving me unable to stand or walk for nearly two months. It was a double blow as I had just got back to walking following a stroke and complications. The area of the scratch is still sensitive to this day. Had I gone to the clinic the same day something may have been done, even to go to hospital for a wider choice of antibiotics. I was bitten slightly once by a dog when living elsewhere, a dog I saw and said hello to everyday, I went straight to the hospital for the rabies jabs. There was no infection. 1
Denim 20955
Just bumping this. Back in mid December we acquired a puppy that somebody had dumped in the fields nearby and had wandered into our garden crying. Our other dogs are all vaccinated but we have not got around to giving him the vaccine yet ( doing it tomorrow ) This morning I was painting when he playfully bit my arm to get attention. Not aggressive but he has sharp little teeth and caused a blood flow. I immediately washed the wound with water, alcohol and hydrogen peroxide . Deciding to err on the side of safety , I went to our local hospital 2 hours later for a post exposure vaccine. I was given 2 shots, one in each arm . I have to go back in 4 weeks time then again in August for final shot. They then sent me home. No other medication , and no fee paid. Is this pretty normal procedure in rural Thailand ? Am I now ' good to go ' ? 1

Lorry 779
Are you sure, what you got was rabies vaccine? Did you get the sticker? Are you sure you understood what they told you? You should have gotten a handout with a schedule. Your schedule is very unusual. If there are no recent scientific breakthroughs that I am not aware of, it's completely wrong. There are many vaccination schedules. The Zagreb-schedule goes like this: 2 injections, intramuscular, on day 0 (ie today) (were your injections intramuscular, long needle, into the muscle? or just into the skin with a short needle?), one more on day 7 (ie next week), one more on day 21 (in 3 weeks). Try to find out what they gave you, and go to a bigger hospital asap. You also should get RIG rabies immunoglobulin asap, expensive and only available in bigger or private hospitals. Well....I'll try to find out what exactly they gave me but they understood perfectly that it was because I was bitten by a dog and they re cleaned the wound. I agree....I thought it unusual compared to I read about it before going to the hospital. The needle seemed long enough to me, about 3 inches. Thanks for advice. I don't usually use government hospitals but there are no private ones nearby and I thought speed was of the essence. I am pretty sure this puppy doesn't have rabies but obviously , I can't be sure. I'll take your advice. I have just translated the card they gave me and it is a tetanus jab !!! You were right....Back to hospital now !!
