with very few vaccinated and with not so good prevention for delta, with infections in tens of thousands and deaths in hundreds it's still worth everything to flat curve and prevent health service meltdown.

this wave might last till end of year, until large proportion has 2 vax.

My lifestyle is very little affected and I would be more holiday-like active, if not my money-pinching wife

lockdowns are too expensive to maintain in the long run, so governments are slowly realizing that using them doesn't solve any problem and only make things worse at the end with the economic disaster and psychology impact in has on the population

yes they are finally giving up, thank god we have the vaccine

Anyhow i digress, lock downs haven't worked anywhere yet, still governments around the globe continue forcing them on us.

The truth is everyone of us will get covid sooner or later vaccines and our immune systems ability to produce antibodies will eventually win the day

How are you defining ‘worked’? If life was lived normally, the Delta variant would probably double the number of cases every 3-5 days.

the purpose of a lockdown is to reduce the R0 number and the speed of the spread. If that is the goal then they undoubtedly ‘work’.

Whether reducing the spread is worth the economic and social costs of a lockdown is the real question although allowing the virus to spread among an entire population would also have extreme economic and social consequences. That is why most governments around the world have tried to walk the line between restrictions to inhibit the spread whilst allowing the majority of economic activity to continue.

The purpose of lockdowns is to slow the spread of the virus in order to prevent over demand on health services and essential supply chains.

Those bleating about lockdowns not working and/or ruining people’s lives ought to pause for a moment and consider what would happen if the virus was left unchecked to create vastly more ill people; hospitals and medical services completely overrun and the logistics of food supplies collapsing.

Its not that long back people were fighting over over toilet paper, consider the inevitable fights over getting into a hospital, getting the attention of medical staff, access to medicines, oxygen and outside the health system food and fuel supplies.

Lockdowns are the best of very many more evils.

I have to disagree, lockdowns at their very best can only delay the inevitable, my example in the UK protect the NHS save lives what's it there for then ? Don't overwhelm it what's that all about its not a charity I'm currently paying £120pw national insurance plus income tax as are millions of other working people apart from Amazon, Google, etc. It makes no sense how it can be overwhelmed as soon as people need it and we all have to sit at home going bankrupt just so the NHS doesnt get overwhelmed utter rubbish

My definition of not worked is that lockdowns don't work they were deemed necessary at the beginning of the pandemic when we had no Vaccine but they didn't work it's a Corona virus and everyone on the planet is going to get it even if they stay at home till xmas

Lockdowns of the entire population is dumb. It' really quite well known who the at risk of dying people are. Wouldn't it have made more sense for sick ill and unhealthy people to try to isolate untill they are vaccinated and the healthy population just go about there lives, we would have been over this nonsense long ago if that had been done.

Instead we've got this situation and for some reason people still want to listen to the health authorities and governments that have lied to us and missled us. Covid will still be there when you open the door after lockdown. As to the hospitals being prepared, it's getting on two years now if there not prepared now they're never going to be.

The Vaccine doesn't stop you getting Covid or even spreading it. But it significantly increases your chance of not dying, locking down wearing a mask, washing your hands, etc just changes the date you get it.

Next time you are in a UK town or city, find out how many beds are available in the local hospitals and compare that to the population of the city/town.

This might help you overcome the difficulty you are having making sense of this particular issue.

Something about a deadly virus making its rounds on earth.

Could be just a rumor though.

It’s quite well known that people of all ages have been killed by this virus and very many more people of all ages have been hospitalized with serious symptoms and complications.

As for your assertion that the hospitals have had two years to prepare.

It takes a great deal longer than two years to build, equip and staff hospitals.

There’s a little problem of training doctors, nurses and other health professionals.

I'm not saying that friend, i know the NHS is in a critical condition  but that's not through Covid. Governments have spent the last 20 years ripping bit's off it now its got to the point that they would be saying protect the NHS if a coach crashed at south Mimms ????

Right, but look at the UK now. They got up to 70% ish double vaccinated and a lot of the restrictions are gone. Nightclubs and pubs fully open, football stadiums full. It changes the date you get it to a date (after being fully vaccinated) when is it much less likely to kill you.

When Thailand reach a similar 70%ish figure (in December or January at the current vaccination rate) most of the restrictions will be gone here too.

I specifially never mentioned age because an American cdc study of 540000 covid deaths I read didn't either. The study looked at covid deaths and the 7 or 9 pre existing conditions. 99.3% of the dead had 1 or more of the pre existing conditions most had more than one. The number one co morbidity by far was obesity.

I think in terms of age it's more about the miles, how many medical problems you accumulate along the way.

In terms of the hospitals I dunno how long do you want to wait for ?

Exactly  my friend  vaccination is the only way out people can mingle and build up a natural  immunity without  dying its a win win situation.

Not sure

If it has then that would be brilliant.

From what i have seen though we can't isolate our way out of this one i think you have to get it and get some antibodies,  honestly i wish it wasn't true but nobody  in the world has isolated their way out of this one to my knowledge ????

Its only precious to them now because they want to flog it off and make a quick buck.

Lockdowns and Isolation have never been a means to end the pandemic, their only purpose is to slow the spread of infections and protect health and essential services - as has been explained.

They have been very effective at achieving that aim.

Didn't the lockdown of spring 2020 (in the absence of a vaccine) help to buy us 8 months of almost covid-free life? And then the lack of a lockdown, (coupled still with no vaccine) in spring 2021 accelerated the current surge. Easy for a retired person to say.

Even if we all get Covid sooner or later, personally I would rather get it later

If it were possible to get everyone fully vaccinated instantaneously, you would have made a good point. But it isn't possible so you didn't. Reducing infections until people get vaccinated or until  a highly effective treatment is found, is the primary purpose of lockdowns.

Kinda like just how it was before the Covids invaded.

So another 5 to 10 years of lock downs then?
