Popular Post karl2007
During this Covid-19 my wife and I decided to have a weekly BBQ, and bought a small portable BBQ. Which just lasted a few hours and we had a lot of fun doing it. We have been doing this for the last couple of weeks. The condo complex is large as there are 4 main buildings and areas for recreational. We decided to have one near the back entrance which is the farthest point away from any buildings and is rather isolated. During the this BBQ session a Thai resident walked passed and complained to the security about our BBQ. The security and I am sure they don't know told us that we are not aloud to have a BBQ outside. We ignored him and carried on cooking. He then called the Jursitic office and some the management came over and told us to stop cooking as its against regulation. I asked him to show me this regulation in English to confirm. However, to avoid any having any issues. My wife and I decided to take our BBQ outside the complex which was a bit frustrating and not convenient. I did some checking on the regulations but couldn't find anything about this. Can't really see what the problem is, as we always cleaned up the area after we finished and you wouldn't even know someone had a BBQ there. And the amount of smoke is minimum. 2
Popular Post impulse
Is it an electric BBQ, gas, or charcoal? Many buildings (condos included) don't allow open flames. Pretty understandable... The amount of smoke from your BBQ may be minimal. But if they let you do it, they'll soon have other people cooking with charcoal and black soot stains all over the building. And eventually, someone will turn their back on a poorly designed charcoal grill and burn the place down. I appreciate that, but imagine if it becomes "a thing". People would leave litter, start having charcoal BBQ's, invite friends, loud parties, food left for vermin. The condo management have it right. No BBQ's. Having said that, each to his own and I imagine I will be in a minority (of one?) with these views. 7

That's a tough line to draw. Unless they have an area specifically allocated to BBQ's, they'd have people trying it on all over the property. Sadly, the rules need to be written to accommodate idiots as well as reasonable people. 7

Could you imagine the mess just on the concrete or grass when they finish. There has to be a BBQ area allocated and usually it has the BBQ and fixed sit down area provided.

A lot of the Condo buildings elsewhere (Singapore etc) have BBQ specific areas on the grounds. Nothing wrong with having a BBQ on the grounds of a Condo if the smoke is not strong and going into a load of units. A smart jurist committee would set up an outside area people can book and use for a BBQ, which moderates the potential for over use. Using a BBQ on a condo balcony ‘can’ be a recipe for problem, is somewhat antisocial and potentially dangerous when some idiot decides its ok to have a large BBQ or a Gas BBQ (Gas is banned in Condos and apartments). 1
Popular Post tomazbodner
Well our condo provides actual BBQ place for the residents.... a shared outdoor kitchen and dining area. Actually 2 of them but only one has BBQ. Anyone can book it but need to pay a small amount for the cleaning ladies to go over there and clean it after use. It is in a separate building than main condo building so the smoke does not annoy the residents.
ThailandRyan
My condo juristic and rules do allow a BBQ to be used on the balcony, but it must either be a charcoal BBQ or an Electric BBQ grill. No gas is allowed, even in the condo unit for regular cooking, only electric inside. I installed a regular electric glass top range and an oven when I bought my place. Still looking for an electric BBQ/Smoker for use outside on my balcony. Does make it hard to grill a steak without one or even burgers for that matter. I'm not suggesting you BBQ them, but what about the smoke and cooking smells? Does that not concern you? 4 2

blackcab
You need to obtain a copy of your condo rules. They will state what is and what is not allowed. The rules will also state the monetary fine if you do break the rules.

MrJ2U
Unfortunately you can't. Its a fire hazard. I'm sure you're neighbors would be annoyed havig BBQ smoke wafting through there expensive condos also. Many condos will have common areas and sometimes a communal BBQ area where you can BBQ. Good luck.

There is a unit somewhere below us that does use a BBQ with charcoal and it does get strong sometimes, but then I just close the balcony doors. What's more annoying is the smell of my neighbor smoking outside on his balcony and the smoke entering my unit, making me shut the doors. Charcoal smoke and food cooking is better than cigarettes in my book. 2
Popular Post smutcakes
Our condo has an outside fixed BBQ point, with large BBQ provided. I have not once in 2 years seen anyone use it. My issue with these types of things is they always end up being abused. 95% of people would be responsible, clean up etc, unfortunately in Condominiums you always have that 5% who ruin it for the rest.

Some people could not understand how other people could be so selfish as to complain about the smoke wafting into their apartments!!! I think I am weird. 1

YT3k72Em
My condo doesn't even allow you to eat in the common areas. Understandable, as people will leave a mess. Cooking food in the common area is probably against the rules of most condos, unless they have a designated area for it. You can't just choose your own part of the common area and decide you'll have a cook up.

EVENKEEL
Got me thinking. Living in a Condo, How or what do you use to light the BBQ? Me, have many palm trees and the fallen leaves are very flammable, a little dry limbs from tree. Can you buy little bundles of BBQ starter, What?
