BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has praised Lalisa "Lisa" Manoban, a member of South Korean band “Blackpink”, for featuring the Phanom Rung Stone Castle and Thai craftsmanship in the music video for her solo album “Lalisa”.

Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said Gen Prayut expressed his readiness to promote the country’s soft power, to increase value in the creative economy, following the phenomenal success of Lisa’s latest music video.

He said the prime minister believes this phenomenon will bolster the confidence of Thai industry and fashion design in applying Thai culture to production of merchandise to increase economic value and expressed his confidence that the Thai creative economy will be successful as Thailand has its own traits in craftsmanship, traditions and tourism sites, as well as community based cultural identities.

Mr. Thanakorn said Gen Prayut admires the success of Thai artists, including individuals whose works reflect their dedication and determination to inspire many Thais in arts, music and film. The application of Thai culture will help to spread the culture internationally.

God damm it, I'm sure the Thai people are more interested in what the Countries doing to combat covid 19, rather than a South Korean wearing a Thai traditional dress....

Except from that we are talking about a person of Thai nationality, I must agree with you.

Seems that a certain person finds the most irrelevant things to work with. Wonder what that might be a reflection on? In my opinion it can only be two things:

  • Lack of organizing skills that make a person totally aware of his condition, but unable to understand what´s wrong. (Imagine the pain of such condition)
  • Walking in the hands of power like a puppet, being told what to do for every step one takes so nothing regarding the flood of money changes direction.

In both cases a totally useless person that have zero knowledge of, or the meaning of, the position that is connected to his name.

prayut is wise enough to realize he can't take on LISA and her millions of fans worldwide.

Some ultra-nationalists made a run at her last week but wisely backed off. Yes, there is some thai culture in this video, a lot if you consider pole-dancing to be thai culture.

As long as she isn't overt in supporting reforms - there is some "messaging" in her LALISA video ("So you need to speak up", with police in riot gear) - she should be "safe" from any attitude-adjusting.

Why doesn't he just go into hiding? Does he not realize the level to which he is despised, at this point? Does he not understand all credibility is lost, and the nation would be safer and more stable, if he never opened his mouth, except to scarf down his lobster tail, Beluga caviar, and 2006 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne?

What is it with this man's almost pathological obsession to seeing Thai culture being spread internationally?

He truly IS the kindred of a rather insular, inward-looking nation that is (wrongly) convinced it somehow is the navel of the world and pinnacle of human civilization.

Do you ever hear from Thailand's neighbors constantly flogging their culture and wanting to "bring it to the world"?

Besides, what has the Phanom Rung complex in Buriram got to do with Thai culture at any stretch of the imagination? It's Khmer!

And is there any reasonable expectation that this mental midget could distinguish between ancient Khmer, and the end of the Ayutthaya period? Very unlikely he has studied any history, other than military academic, highly doctored war stories.
