Thailand on Thursday (September 16) reported 13,897 new COVID-19 cases, 13,527 recoveries and 188 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

● 13,527 recoveries

 13,503 new infections

 394 prison / prison infections

Thursday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,434,237 with 14,953 deaths.

(Total infections since April 1: 1,405,374)

The news comes as Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said Wednesday that people already inoculated with two doses of the China’s Sinovac vaccine will be given the third booster jab soon in October or even sooner.

He did not, however, specify the new timing, adding that it will be up to the Disease Control Department.

Millions of people, including many foreign migrant workers, have been given two Sinovac doses and are waiting for a third booster jab of AstraZeneca viral vector vaccine, expected to commence in October.

  • Active case finding that doesn't get added to the daily total. One reason I would say that has seen the drop in numbers from the mid 20k. There is also the factor of false negatives.

The Thai school year started in May, but due to #COVID19, campuses have remained closed for 4 months now. 271,888 students are unable to learn online as they have no electricity. The top 5 provinces with the most problems are Narathiwat, Pattani, Tak, Nakhon Ratchasima & Yala.

Bangkok distributing 2 million ATKs to residents in high-risk groups

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, in cooperation with the National Health Security Office, is handing out from Thursday 2 million antigen test kits (ATKs) to Bangkokians who are at high risk of contracting Covid-19.

“The move aims to expand the scope of active case finding in Bangkok," deputy governor Sophon Phisutthiwong said on Wednesday. "People who test positive can isolate themselves early on, which will lead to efficient control against the virus spreading.”

Woah anyone notice Thailand's 7day case count trend is following every single other country out there and also represents a bell curve?  I think we can use this to predict then cases will bottom out.

Yes I know about published Thai number fitting a curve with a bell end.

Lets not forget the unpublished figures.

Do you mean the asymptomatic cases?

ATK tests, those mentioned by Dr Udon of the CCSA, and generally those not identified through lack of testing.

Not sure the number of PCR positive tests are useful for trend analysis

Can optimistic posters get a grip please

So with asymptomatic cases, ATK tests, and lack of testing, you think the true covid case count is significantly higher?  What about the death count?  Does this mean the death rate is actually lower??

Lower the PCR tests and encourage Antigen testing as the norm and dont include the latter positives in the daily press releases.

Almost as brilliant as the no test no have policy of the first year.

Amazing Thailand land of double Ds! ........Denial and Delusion.

Who knows but this trend has been observed in other outbreaks and is often taught in middle school biology.  Seems like some sort of natural cycle of sort.

The low numbers are exactly what this government wants to see regardless of actual numbers that can only be found through testing - the low counts make them look good and fits the agenda - unfortunately it may not be indicative of the actual true status of covid in Thailand

.

I'm still waiting for any of the covid "investigators" on these daily threads to tell us all what the CT is in Thailand for rt-PCR?

Anyone?

No idea, but the Thai village based death certification does not normally include a PCR test.

The attitude by the Thai Govt is really “Let’s reopen the country to tourists - come hell or high water” as they stand firm on their previous pledge to revive the economy while also continuing to battle #COVID19.

More than 20 COVID-19 vaccines being developed in #Thailand, and 3 have entered human trials after showing promising results

When Thailand began its battle against COVID-19 early last year, local scientists were quick to launch research programs on innovative weapons to contain the virus. So far, their hard work has yielded a small but effective armory, ranging from vaccine prototypes to groundbreaking test kits and more.

Spot on and weve had a year and a half of this pandemic policy of delusion and illusion.

It’s a bit of a misleading headline to say “Let’s open the country to tourists  - come hell or high water” when both links state it’s when 70% of the residents are expected to have been fully vaccinated.

From the second link:

“According to the minister, more than 70 per cent of Bangkok’s population have already received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine but only 37 per cent have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The remaining 33 per cent should have been given their second dose by early October, he added.”

It would be nice to see some chart in relation to deaths due to the Delta variant. I think this might show a different story in relation to other countries.

We all know that when Thailand uses the term asymptomatic its very generous in its labeling 70-80%, so generous it ignores all known recent international studies of covid-19

Complete nonsense. More healthy kids are dying on the roads in one day than have died from covid in 18 months. Get them back in school NOW
