Popular Post Henryford
I thought wine was coming down in price to attract all the billionaires. La Vida up from 990 to 1090 today. If that is a 10% increase in the full price it must be something like a 20% increase in the tax. 2 1

Popular Post jacko45k
My Mrs heard that a glass of wine before bed is good for health so got into that habit. Sometimes, when she goes to town I give her some money and say to get some. This has produced some awful stuff lately, and the latest is Italian 'cooking wine'.... 1

Ah yes, I was offered a large bottle of this (or something similar) at one of the Ma and Pa mini-marts I go to, which usually has a very good selection of well priced wine. The lady in the shop said it was a good wine but was labelled cooking wine to be able to get taxed at a lower rate, but there was nothing about the label or description which tempted me! I did try a similar one at a friends house a while back and I suggested he might want to keep the wine and and soak a rag with it, as it would be very good for getting the rust off his motorbike wheels. 1
Cherrytreeview
I doubt you have seen anything yet. Thailand closed for 2 years and they are going to get those lost earnings back. Expats and returning tourists are going to get rinsed. The global tourism industry is doing it, so why shouldn't Thailand? I don't blame them. 2
Popular Post Guderian
As that judge in Hua Hin said when throwing out the double-pricing case, all of us rich farangs can easily afford to pay more than Thai people (who mostly don't drink wine anyway), and it's good for the country, so bad luck. Maybe they'll use the proceeds to reduce the duty on top-line Mercedes as a way of benefiting all the "poor" Thais in this country, while we rich farangs drive around in our Toyota Yaris's, or on our Honda Clicks, lol.

Popular Post AhFarangJa
I make my own now, same as I did in Saudi. Works out at less than 80 baht a litre, mulberry wine even cheaper, all come out at 12% abv. 5

I grew up in Missouri and along I44 are a few wineries. Back in the '80s I was passing by them so I stopped and bought a bottle. Later at a convention I joined friends who are oenophiles for a wine tasting. I offered up a sip of my mystery cheap wine - the reactions were hilarious. The best suggestion was that it might be good for killing athlete's foot. I gave them a much better bottle and disposed of the wine from the first bottle down a sink. There are few things in life worse than bad wine. Edited October 2, 2021 by HarrySeaman 3

Are you sure it was 480 a box.

Luckily I have been able to source some very good wines through importers and distributors, who want to get rid of excess stock and discount the price, and I have been the beneficiary, much to my delight. Don't know how long this will continue, and I'm keen to see exactly what the "new wine tax laws" or whatever they are supposed to be, will affect the price of wine, this especially as I don't drink beer.
Peterphuket
The price of the wine depends on the alcohol percentage. How lower the price, how lower the percentage of alcohol.

tomyami
Billionares do enjoy fine dining and a wine that completes the occassion do factor in the price, glad thai's dont attract this quality tourist they might realize what they are missing. The taxing limits choice as well But when ur market is to satify local product best target those tourists who will drink any <deleted>, always using the "thailand to attract wealthy" as just more TAT bull
