Thai netizens fierily debate Pfizer vaccine for students as anti-vaxxers emerge

The Thai hashtag #PfizerForStudents became the top-trending hashtag on Twitter in Thailand for two consecutive days, which resulted in a fiery debate on why some students, dubbed as the Thai version of the so-called “anti-vaxxers”, are refusing to be inoculated with the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.

 

Among those joining the conversation was veteran DJ Yutthana Boonaom, better known as “Pa Ted”, who posted on his Facebook page that a group of students are against the use of Pfizer, as they’ve been told by their parents not to get inoculated with this vaccine following a widely circulated message sent via the LINE messaging app.

 

“Pa Ted” also explained that the message in question falsely claims that the Pfizer vaccine is dangerous and that “Pfizer is genocide”, which he said is fake news.

Girlfirends daughter(16) is getting her first Pfizer jab on Sunday, at the same location in Udonthani that I had both of my Pfizer vaccines last month.

Thailand has a lot of anti-vaxxers.  They were just not very prominent when most people were stepping over each other trying to get vaccines.

Indeed. Tired of the "anti-vax" label. People who are a bit dubious of a vaccine technology that failed to garner FDA approval for 15 years, but it suddenly "safe", are simply being prudent. I have had many "traditional" vaccines in my life, but this new technology is something for which I have a "wait and see" approach. Maybe those blindly lining up for the vaccines should be labeled "anti-critical-thinkers".

He may be an antivaxxer now but he is the one who supposedly help send us on this path we are now on, and the MRNA technology is being used for more than just a Covid vaccine now.  Some folks have druthers after creating something and wished they had not as it is not what they perceived it to be.  Look at all the tall tales and stories about the PCR inventor, yet it is still applicable.  Everyone has their own opinion and they are more than welcome to it.  All i did was point out how far back this type of vaccine technology started and by whom.  Not taking a side one way or another as I believe in vaccines and for the good they have done our world. Sure some have created issues for people but everyone's body is different and what one can take another can not, but until you try a vaccine or medication one never knows what kind of side affects they may endure.  For the large majority they are safe.

Given the way mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are being demonized and how he apparently believes that they are so deadly and ineffective, I have to ask: Why is Malone so eager to claim ownership of them as their inventor? There really is a major disconnect here in his thinking. On the one hand, Malone’s desperation to be properly recognized by the scientific community as the one true “inventor of mRNA vaccines” is palpable. On the other hand, he routinely describes these vaccines (or at least the current COVID-19 vaccines) as not merely ineffective, but also horrifically deadly, a message amplified by quacks like Bret Weinstein and Joe Mercola, who proclaim these vaccines to be “the biggest crime against mankind in the history of humanity.” Why, if Malone truly believes that these vaccines are such scourges and horrors, would he want to be recognized as their inventor? If he were, then wouldn’t all the horror, death, and destruction attributed to the vaccines by antivaxxers then become, in large part, his fault?

And what about those making reasonable arguments as to why this vaccine is debatable. Their voices are muted, while the pro-vaccine message is amplified. The debate has not been balanced by any measure. It would be more understandable if this virus was on the level of ebola, but it is not. Maybe if governments spent as much time, effort, and money on expanding the healthcare system to be capable of handling the "increased load", as they do pushing the vaccines to those not at exceptional risk, we could end this nonsense of lockdowns and have a more balanced approach to the pandemic overall. Thankfully, it appears that new treatments, such as the new Merck pill, will help to alleviate the pressure on the healthcare system and allow a less radical approach to the problem.

I think you're wildly underestimating both the effects of covid on those "not at exceptional risk" and the benefits of mass vaccination.

So the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines transfer "genetic material" in the form of non-replicative mRNA to direct the cells that have taken it up to produce a single native viral protein.  Which is essentially what the virus that causes COVID-19 does along with a lot of other viral proteins and ultimately infectious viral particles that then repeat the cycle in other cells. 

 

It's interesting that so many effectively see/treat the vaccine as being more dangerous than the virus.

The Thai people I've talked to are eager for the mRNA vaccines.  But they can't get a hold of them.

 

The only complaining I've heard is having to take the Chinese versions.

 

Theres always going to be anti vaxers everywhere.  Theres not enough Pfeizer to go around anyways.

 

  Give them Sinovac instead.  

 

Save the Pfeizer for the smart gene pool.

so how would you solve it?

Historically, famine, pestilence, and plague did the job,

add state control to the mix, what could possibly go wrong?

Everyone in my extended family in the US and Canada, including all teens, have received two doses of Pfizer with no issues at all.  I have received both of my Pfizer doses here with no side effects as well.  My Thai son, age 16, is scheduled to get his first Pfizer vaccine next week.  My only regret is that my Thai wife has only been able to get the "Thai cocktail" - Sinovac and AstraZeneca.

Because this is how genuine scientific knowledge among the general public should be disseminated.  By non-scientists debating.

Also note that it is a well known tactic to pose as rabidly anti-vaxx to make outrageous statements about vaxxines in order to paint everyone , even genuine skeptics with valid reasoning as crazy, irrational, out of their minds etc.

So far, more than 5 billion vaccines have been administered world wide. Did anyone hear of any large-scale problems or side effects? Governments being able to follow those who are vaccinated because they were injected with a tiny little device? DNA being magically altered? Or is all that really happening and being swept under the carpet?
