steveb5
I'm looking to buy a tablet for my 3-year-old son. Looking for something that has decent specs and not too expensive. I see some Chinese brands on Lazada but difficult to tell only looking at a picture. Anyone have any experience.

Popular Post EVENKEEL
You can get cheap ones for $3000 tbh, that's what mine got at that age. Just go to a local place and get one. I know many make fun of such young kids having a tablet but it's the world we live in now. kwonitoy
https://www.leapfrog.com/en-us/home These folks make great stuff for kids, I've bought the tablets at Siam Square in Bangkok They are fun educational and very very tough, my son's tablet outlasted his interest in it. 2

I have a 3 yr old that has his own tablet. He is a self starter and mostly watches video's that teach him something. At 3 he knows all his ABC's, he can count to 100 by 1's, to 50 by 5's, 100 by 2's, is doing addition and subtraction, understands 10's, 100's, 1000s places, and numerous other things. I have caught him watching a 45 min video on black holes, the human body, and other factual things with no pushing. Already reading 3 letter words and understands how many syllables words have. Kind of crazy, but true. Maybe he is just an early starter, but the tablet gives him instant access to learning. He is still a rough and tumble little boy full of energy but when he sits to watch something, he's all in. So maybe cut the guy some slack. My son has a Lenovo Tab 10' hand me down with a case (he is still 3) since he was 2. We use mostly Youtube Kids and some Scratch Garden as well as Number Blocks, Alpha Blocks, and other learning videos on you tube. Monitoring the content he takes in is important. 6
Popular Post Gottfrid
@steveb5 You do realize that your kid is 3 years old, right? Why in the world do you act like an irresponsible parent on this forum asking what tablet to buy for him? The right answer is NO tablet! After that I suggest some elementary education for you. 2 2 2 4
Popular Post bbko
To the naysayers here, I think you don't realize how much of a learning tool a tablet, ipad, iphone, smart phone can be if used correctly and in moderation. Some people here are acting like the OP wants to park his kid in corner with his device and walk away. My almost 2 year old nephew has a iPhone 6 and loves watching Youtube vids about learning the Thai and English alphabet, numbers or colors, pair that up with his parents reinforcing what he watched and it's a good match. He's watching learning vids not John Wick. 2
Popular Post HappyGoLuckyLife
To everyone coming at the OP for wanting to buy his kid a tablet, why even respond if you're not going to help. Personally, as @bbko stated, tablets can be amazing learning tools IF used correctly and in moderation. My 2-year old granddaughter knows her ABCs, colors, numbers, and can identify these things in a couple different languages (including a few words in ASL) from her moderated experiences using the tablet. Second, my 11-year old granddaughter (who had a tablet since the age of 3) is currently a straight A student, who receives comments like, "displays a higher level of thinking" in her report cards regularly. She knows that a tablet is a tool and not life. She gets out regularly, goes to activities like gymnastics, and is your typical kid. It all comes down to how the tools are used in educating the child. That is the responsibility of the parents. But to bash someone wanting to utilize tech in educating kids seems quite archaic. 4

Exactly this - I’m am frequently amazed at the vast array my son has developed from watching well made, well presented and interested presentations on subject matter many of us find challenging. As you wrote [DrPhibes] - when on car journeys, flights, even in a restaurant our son was watching educational videos, playing educational games... always learning. Of course he also plays some silly games when he wants - its all about balance. That doesn’t mean that he [our child] is addicted to the screen, far from it - thats up to the parents to control and prevent the iPad (tablet) from becoming an addiction. Such ‘tools’ complement education and are to be used in balance so that our children grow up with a balance approach - this lesson of balanced approach could be learned by some of the more ridiculous posters on this topic. 3

It´s excellent, for all lazy parents that can´t <deleted> themselves with enough interest to tech their own children. And, I can guarantee this is no comment from a person who does not know. You on the other hand, has probably not studied all the reports regarding effects of to much and too early screen time for children under the age of 7. I suggest you go back and study before you let the next verbal fantasy hit the writing board. 1 1

Lazy isn't it, the tablet augments our other teaching such as chalk number find maze on the driveway, clay, paint, flashcards, reading to him, etc... Can't be with him every single second. I'm working and mom is cleaning the house/cooking/gardening/etc... There is no daycare (which he loves) available now due to COVID. This keeps him educationally busy along with other creative toys while we are busy. The warning on screen time is about viewing junk and reduced verbalizing and socializing. The kid is a chatterbox explaining his videos and there is no group socializing until COVID is a bit more under control. P.S., his older brother (1st year in KMUTT) is studying to be a game programmer and his sister (finishing HS) going into the same program as a game designer. About 2 yrs after college (last 2 years at a uni in the US) they'll be pulling in $80 - 100k USD in a job each loves and should have legs until they retire. Both play multiple music instruments, daughter paid modeling gigs, both avid AOW scuba divers certified as soon as legally able, and have been self-sufficient for years (alone a couple of months once with uncle doing a "Hi and Bye" 1x a week). We moved to Thailand during their teen years to give the them these opportunities without putting the wife and I in the poorhouse (man those teens can eat Thailand bonus savings!) or child services showing up at our doorstep because some childless crazy cat lady thought we were doing something immoral in the eyes of god (apologies to childless crazy cat ladies everywhere). Our family is not lazy, were busy ????

The studies are showing slower learning capabilities, antisocial behavior, anger issues as well as a correlation to ADHD regarding increased number in groups of children that uses cell phones at low ages. 1
