Over 90,000 apply to enter Thailand in 6 days since reopening

Over 90,000 foreign visitors applied for the “Thailand Pass” to enter the country between November 1st and yesterday (Saturday). Of these, 33,788 applications have been approved, Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said on Sunday.

 

Since November 1st, when Thailand reopened the country to foreign arrivals, 16,595 have entered Thailand without the need for quarantine, under the “test and go” program, the “sandbox” schemes in specific provinces and under the alternative quarantine program. Most of them have arrived from the US, Germany, the UK, Japan and Switzerland.

 

Thanakorn said about 30,000 foreign visitors are expected to enter Thailand in November and in December. This is about 10% of about three million who visited Thailand monthly in 2019. For the whole of 2021, he said that an estimated 700,000 tourists will have arrived in Thailand, including over 65,000 who visited Thailand under the “Phuket sandbox” scheme since July 1st.

So now we have a prediction of approximately 635,000 tourists coming in November/December , even though the story stated 30,000 coming a month ? Or is the reported trying to say about 575,000 tourists arrived when the airport was closed ? Or are now migrants in the tourist visitors figures? 

 

Anyone ? 

 

Also the backlog has now risen to 60,000 application from Fridays 50,000 - god help applicants

I've given up believing in any numbers/statistics quoted by any government agency or anyone else of relative importance. I never believed the Covid figures, the road deaths figures are a travesty and TAT has been providing b/s figures for so long now it has become a standing joke.

 

How about a figure from the Government as to how much each minister has made from backhanders and brown envelopes ... that would be far more interesting

There certainly are many people eager to come to Thailand now . Even with all the loops to pass ...

Thailand is still one of the better countries to visit and live in .

The ones who stay here already , seem to be privileged as it is not so easy to come here anymore ...

Wow! Smashing! You need to apply for your own holiday to be approved nowadays. 
I missed the good old days of traveling, where you just need a non biometric passport and funds without any complicated paperwork requirements.

no, those sitting in close proximity are hospitalised for up to 10 days, same as the positive one.

But rules now are changed, only those seating directly next to you, and not on front and behind you. The first case in phuket sandbox was only 14 passengers, not the whole air plane.

That 10 days hospitalisation is shortened from the previous 14 days. And it's planned to be cut to 3-4 days, when tested the second time pcr negative.

It's not a scam. Such policy is in thailand from the first wave, it applies to all (including thai) and is universalfor the whole country, not just in phuket.

Now they have realised they need tourists badly so rules will be liberalised every few weeks. The test before flying to thailand will also be cancelled - just one on arrival (that is planned within 2 weeks)

Based on these numbers today and the numbers published on Nov 3rd, it looks like the processing capacity for approvals is running about 6000 per day.

More discouraging news. The PM has announced that the government is considering adding an additional 30 countries to the list eligible for application for the QR Code. ????

It's a massive rejection rate.

 

Is the website simply that bad or are they randomly picking who can come?

 

I find it hard to believe they would be rejecting tourists randomly so something is seriously wrong with the system here - it's not fit for purpose.

 

Fire them all and recreate the system from scratch.

Thai are great with math, aren't they? Unbelievable, Government Spokesman Thanakorn must re-take grade 5-7 math. 

30K per month is only a 1% not 10% as reported.

Seen quite a few sort of insulting posts about Thai arithmetic abilities. Give them a break, they are using  Arabic numbering system and a lot must be lost merely due to translation squabbles and such. Not to mention cultural differences of the importance placed on  exactness's.

Selected scams: came here in May (family lives here), 14 day quarantine, on 7th day covid test inconclusive: wanted to ship me to hospital (insurance scam)for additional 14 quarantine: insisted on an independent test with another provider: test negative. Then found out hotel gets 6000baht for hospital referrals.

The test before flying to thailand isn't the problem.

The test on arrival is the problem and this is stopping many people going i'm sure.

1. they want to be sure test is done properly. In the other countries you can order cheap pcr test yourself at home - it is delivered by post, you do your own swab, deliver to laboratory or post it. That might lead to abuse.

2. thai want to make money on pcr - charging 2400b. In Europe those same tests are from e49, with results 24-36h. But also in some countries pcr tests are free.

3. thai want to sell their 1 night hotel rooms and if positive put travellers into hospital or hospitel (that starts at 30k for 14 days). Also they have chance to find those sitting on airplane in close proximity - those are to hospitalised for 10 days as a precaution - that is another way of skimming off money
