Daily News reported that the Bangkok governor General Aswin Kwanmuang had mobilized regular police, tourist police and the military to check on areas where there are lots of foreign tourists, foreigners doing business and foreigners living.

Targeted were Silom, Nana, Klong Toei, Khao San Road, Phra Nakhon, Thong Lo, Wattana district (upper Sukhumvit), Yaowarat Road and Samphanthawong.

The media said that teams were checking that Covid-19 rules were being followed and were particularly looking out for travellers from so-called high risk countries from Africa.

Nationals of 8 nations in Africa were recently required to quarantine on arrival.

This all comes after the first case of Omicron was found in a US national.

Since then there have been two more cases of Thais arriving from Nigeria.

The US man stayed in a hotel in the Bang Rak area of Bangkok and two hotels there were the subject of contact tracing and recommendations for deep cleaning and further screening.

Entertainment places and restaurants serving alcohol were checked in particular.

Meanwhile the media also reported along with a number of phone numbers that free ATK tests were being maede available in the Thai capital.

Health insurance plans that meet the long stay visa requirements

So the xenophobic hate continues. A government policy or instruction from elsewhere ?

After months of 10,000's daily cases, and that's the only ones that were even tested or declared, now this racist nonsense.

Welcome to Thailand, please enjoy your holiday.

FOREIGNERS

Yes, that's us again. A Thai will never bring such a thing back home.

Thais bring it home!!!!

Thais in Nigeria? Doing some strange business?

Simply follow the already well established rules, and there is no problem.

Just to help with that warm welcome feeling.

I'm sure the holiday was all kosher.

Is anyone checking on the locals too?  It should not be one sided.  But to be honest.  When walking and riding in grab car.  I do see a lot of foreigners not wearing masks in numerous locations. The majority of Thais are wearing masks.  But if there is a sweep to check.  It should be for everyone.

There can't be many countries around the world where the military is moblised to check on foreigners. All part of the Thai experience. And an extension of the long-running farce of, in pre-Covid days, police descending on tourist areas such as Soi Cowboy to close down the bars at midnight for no reason at all other than that they can. Still, all good stuff for tourists and other foreigners to report to those back home as a warning of what they might find if they come here, things that TAT forgets to mention in their promotion campaigns.

A night out in the company of men with guns. Not nice.

'lots of foreign tourists, foreigners doing business and foreigners living.'

Is it just me or does the sentence need another word at the end?

It just leaves me with the impression that they are not concerned with dead ones........?
