Manager reported from the holiday island of Koh Chang in Trat in the east of Thailand.

The destination proved popular with weekenders who went there for the three day holiday after Constitution Day Friday.

Some 20,000 people left the island through the day yesterday on seven ferries from the two ports on the island.

They managed to clear 300-400 cars an hour.

Despite this there were tailbacks of 1.5 kilometers as people drove home.

Health insurance plans that meet the long stay visa requirements

Yes, last time I was there it was chaos , not only was there one

lane of cars but the other lane was full of cars too, so the ones

coming off the ferry could not move , swore I would never go

there again,

regards Worgeordie

Went last month, even during weekdays the ferry queue is up to 1 hr. Didnt find anything special and the beach was average. Not worth the time especially the wait for ferry.

I love Koh Chang but I must admit I have not been caught up in ferry queues once. Thinking of going there soon. Anybody know what covid paperwork is required - I have one unvaccinated person in my party. Were there any checks?

Never ever travel to or from Koh Chang with a car on the first or last day of a holiday unless you want to become part of the chaos described in the article. It's been this way for as long as I can remember.

Don't go on a national holiday.. easy solution.

No doubt there will be a repeat performance on Monday 3rd January.

Yes, they checked my vaccination certificate before I boarded the ferry.  I went last month and had a great time.

Why people keep going to this tra$h island is beyond understanding...

Have you got a better suggestion?  Phuket, Koh Samet, Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, etc.

They checked for vaccination records before boarding ferry so the unvacinated one might be barred from boarding even in private vehicles.

I miss the Koh Chang of the 1990's!

Phuket was the same then. Now look at it.

It was even better in the 1980's

The smart people take a few extra days off. They travel on the roads before the masses do and

do not find themselves in the big road blocking messes. I guess most working people cannot do this

so it is indeed great to be retired. Been to Koh Chang a couple of times and enjoyed the visits.

so they should stay home or buy a real life where you are not an idiot slave of your job.

I just came back from a week's holiday on Tuesday. No one checked our vax status or ATK results at the ferry or the hotels (Mercure and Mac Resort). Maybe due to being obviously very busy last week. Had a great time, and nice to see Ko Chang busy again after a long while.

  • 3 weeks later...

Been there a few times, and going again mid January. Never had a major delay. Obviously avoid the weekends and ANY National holiday (which is hard as there seems to be one nearly every week).
