Thailand is pressing ahead to study the possibility of opening a fully legal casino in the country.

It has been called an "Entertainment Complex" with full facilities that would have a casino as a part.

Yesterday Bangkok MP for Palang Pracharath Phada Worakanon acted as spokewoman for the house commission that has been set up to study the matter. It comprises 60 MPs across parties.

She said they would be meeting every Thursday.

Five sub-committees have been set up, reported Naew Na.

They will study the law and tax collection issues, where the complex should be located, who the investors should be, how it should be run possibly by some kind of "gaming commission" and finally a group to look at ways to mitigate harmful effects on society.

She stressed that the people will be involved every step of the way.

She said that everyone will have a chance to express their views and be heard whether for or against the project.

Polls have shown that Thais are split on the issue.

The appetite for a legal casino seems quite high in the House though PM Prayuth and DMP Prawit are sitting on the fence.

The issue is one of the biggest hot potatoes in gambling mad Thailand where underground casinos and online betting abound, notes ASEAN NOW.

All previous attempts to legalize a casino failed over many decades.

It's a business, of course it will pay tax on earnings.

Chonburi.....YAWN.

CP.

The soon to be formed 'Thai Gaming Comission'.

Pamphlets in the foyer.

No need for five committees to be setup.

Only five sub-committees set up.

That can only fail.

There would be at least 12 sub-committees much better.

It's only tax payers money.

No problem.

What is there to eat?

Have the lunch and dinner menu cards already been printed?

If it's lucrative enough, the pubic won't matter.
I just wonder why they haven't pull the trigger on this earlier?

What a waste of time. We all know "he" has to approve it, anyway.

....and concoct a deeper strategy as to control the "legal" profitability for those particular circles.

Should be well understood that any such projects like these will not trickle into the broader economy or benefit the commons whatsoever.

First legal casino will go in at Phuket.  My guess is in the existing hotel complex at the south western corner of Nai Harn beach.  Very easy to wall off for security because it backs in against the mountain.
