Brit, 82, arrested in Nong Khai on child sex abuse charges

Thailand's charismatic and well known policeman Lt-Gen Surachate Hakparn said that he intends to rid Thailand of foreign pedophiles after a raid at a house in Nong Khai in the north east.

 

The man universally known as Big Joke threatened the full force of the Thai law against any foreign or local people who commit sex crimes against children.

 

Arrested on Monday in Moo 8, Meechai sub-district of Muang district was a British national who has been living in Thailand since 2008.

 

Channel 7 national news was on hand at the rented house where he was arrested.

 

His computer revealed frequent visits to child pornography sites, said the Lt-Gen. Canes and whips were taken into evidence.

 

Surachate said that he had frequently been supplied with girls under the age of 15 and that the parents who did this would be arrested too.

 

He said this amounted to human trafficking in girls under the age of 15. Penalties for this are many years in jail.

 

At a press conference with other senior Region 4 and immigration police he said that it was the RTP's responsibility to enact policies handed down from Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha and DPM Prawit Wongsuwon. 

 

In this case the suspect has already had his visa revoked and been blacklisted and will now face charges connected to children under 15 and pornography. 

 

He said it would be the first of many busts.

 

There are several suspects in Nong Khai and others in Kalasin.

 

He would be working with child and family welfare groups to root out pedophiles. 

 

Paying the children or having them supplied willingly by Thai parents was no defence and the penalties are severe, he warned everyone concerned, reported Naew Na. 

 

Deputy governor Ranida Leuantgthitisakul said that five under aged girls aged between 10 and 17 were involved in the cases in Nong Khai. 

 

These are all in care and receiving support and education and welfare payments. 

 

ASEAN NOW suggests that the presence of Surachate indicates that this is part of a high profile and visible move against foreigners living in Thailand preying on children and their Thai facilitators. 

 

Surachate previously employed such raids along with the media in busts against foreign and local criminals all of which were reported in the press eager to follow his every move.

 

It appears this may well follow a similar pattern.

Sickening that anyone touch an under aged child, that said if one had enough evidence to convict, one could ask the shoe size of the alleged and then open the cell door, telling them that they are free, later advising the court that the alleged disappeared, problem sorted. 

 

I would think that word would spread quickly amongst their own and if that was also reported, i.e. after arrested paedophiles kept disappearing, the others might just get it, that or have their shoes sizes taken when arrested and have justice served.

Seems a bit silly to revoke his visa ahead of dealing with the sex charges first, unless they want to add being illegally in the country too !

 

Still I'm sure most of us will be wishing him a happy 20 years or so on boiled rice if he is guilty

According to what I hear that is absolutely not unusual with Thais and especially stepfathers. And often the mother knows what is going on.

Lots of people know but it seems very few care.

So the question to asked here is the parents are just as morally and criminally guilty by availing their children to be used and abused by others for money? if this is so, the Thai people has a huge issue on their hand to recon with...

When the RTP immigration police are the ones charging and prosecuting these miscreants, they have the right to cancel their legal residential entitlements that were granted by the RTP immigration police themselves. Probably makes for a fast and efficient repatriation after locally-served jail time.

It sounds like this had been going on for some time and the kids may have been trafficked to more than just this one guy. Certainly raises questions about how widespread, including possibly in the ex-pat community, knowledge of this activity was.

 

In the village I live, if young girls were regularly coming to my house, this would instantly raise eyebrows and generate relentless gossip. I would gauge the risk of being arrested or extorted as sky-high. Also, despite there being plenty of economic hardship here, I can't imagine any parent in the area providing or offering their children for sexual exploitation. Excellent work by the police in rooting out this child-trafficking activity, but for the reasons cited above, I personally find it difficult to believe that child-trafficking activity that caters to foreign clientele is as widespread as the article suggests.

   Thais cannot be deported
