churchill
Anybody else in 2 minds as to 3rd shot . 2 shots gives protection against Delta and Omicron is a lot less severe . Given the environment on Samui , if infected , a low viral dose is likely , so should not be too severe . Better to get the virus and develop natural immunity rather than risk a vaccine ? For the 1st 2 shots the risk reward made sense but not now ? I am planning a trip to the UK in May , will not having had 3 shots make travel more complicated ?
Henryford
I won't have a third shot unless i am forced to because of visa/travel restrictions. 1 3
Popular Post MarkT63
Hi I think a third shot is a no brainer. Reported this week (BBC I think I saw it) that 2 shots of both Pfizer and Moderna are only 10% effective against Delta after 6 months, AZ 0% effective. Annual booster shots the thing of the future??

Tropicalevo
If you want to travel then you will need boosters - as and when available. If you intend to sit on your buttt (or want a stay in a hospital), then do not bother

Popular Post khunPer
I had my third jab on Xmas Day - thanks Thailand, for taking care of me... - and in reply to the opening questions: You can get infected with Covid-19 when vaccinated - some says easily with Omicron - but avoiding serious illness, or in worst case scenario death, it's worth having that jab, and any additional jabs, and still be able to gain natural immunity without being critical sick. However, I'm not a doctor or health expert, just an opnion from following the news a bit. It might cause problems traveling without a booster jab, as some European countries counts 6 or 7 month after a vaccination only as valid vaccination cover, so with a booster you extend that period with another approximately half a year per present regulations. ????
ThaIrish Sean
My first two inoculations were Oxford AstraZeneca. 3 months later I contracted covid-19 therefore have natural immunity. I had mild flu symptoms. I still got my booster shot 9 weeks after this. This was a Pfizer BioNTech. I think you're better off getting the booster. I prefer it to be different to your original vaccines. Edited January 3, 2022 by ThaIrish Sean

GroveHillWanderer
4 hours ago, MarkT63 said: Annual booster shots the thing of the future?? Not necessarily. There's no definitive proof that constantly repeated boosters (of vaccines designed for the original strain) will continue to confer additional immunity indefinitely. According to some scientists the law of diminishing returns may apply. For instance, in the article below Dr Marion Pepper of the University of Washington says: Quote she doesn’t think there is limitless benefit from boosting again and again, using the same vaccine strain. "... for the large majority you end up hitting a set point of memory that doesn’t just keep getting bigger every single time you get the same boost." Will we always need Covid-19 boosters? What vaccine risk ??? To much misleading media exaggerating minimal risk. While catching Covid-19 May yield natural immunity the response & symptoms are still unpredictable - the risk of Covid-19 while seemingly diminished is still greater than any vaccine. Getting vaccinated is still the best thing to protect yourself. 1

Nearly all vaccines which administer an inactivated virus require boosting… Tetanus, Polio, MMR etc It is only some of those vaccines which have administered weekend ‘live’ viruses which do not require boosting. Antibodies of respiratory viruses such as colds, flu & now Covid-19 diminish over time - antibodies from a live illness (i.e. having had Covid-19) or a vaccine diminish over time. Boosting offers protection until such a time the virus is not harmful to humans or had minor cold like effects.
MarkT63
The UAE announced this week that it's residents can only leave and return to the UAE if they have had a booster. How long before other countries start applying this rule?
Popular Post phetphet
I was planning a trip back to the UK, so had a Pfizer booster on Boxing Day. Felt no after effects. Bumped into someone today who told me that someone he knows on the island had a Pfizer booster and got thrombosis. I'm now AZ 2 + Pf 1. You just have to weigh the risks and decide yourself. I was prepared to have the booster for more protection and to possibly avoid travel problems. Thanks to Omicron, it looks like travel is out the window for the foreseeable future. 2
