From same article as above:

However, he (Anutin) said that since most people followed prevention regulations, Thailand’s death toll and daily Covid-19 cases are not that high.

Conflicting statements, I know, right?

  • Thailand's strategy of incarcerating most of those who get infected seems to be paying dividends in keeping the numbers down, who on earth wants to report a positive test if its mild symptoms or none

  • They are completely ignoring rapid tests - says it all really

  • Damn, this is what I was worried about, getting seriously ****** off now   Phuket Communicable Disease Committee has decided to close all schools and to teach online instead from 4-14 Januar

Testing early in the course of the illness enables individuals to isolate themselves – reducing the chances that they will infect others and allowing them to seek treatment earlier. If they isolate at home that frees up beds for sicker individuals. Testing also enables authorities to identify clusters, target resources and help to trace those at risk.

Your barking up the same tree that we have been banging our heads against for the past 18 months.  We have stated this over and over here on this forum only to be told how wrong we are and that there is no problem with testing.  Yet no matter what the numbers show we have gut feelings that it is much higher then represented by this group.

What does that have to do with what I said? I didn't say not to test, I said it doesn't matter if we don't have the daily updated numbers of ATK at this point.

Wait were folks not having to show they were vaccinated and show a negative test taken 72 hours prior or take an ATK test on site? Ambulances were also supposedly standing by.

If thats the case, then this does not bode well for the Pattaya Fireworks or Phuket Countdown festivities held.

Operators are standing by to take your reservation for a room at the Inn.......sarcasm.

Think we all know that's not happening at the majority of "restaurants".

Just depends what side of the fence he's sitting on at the time, leaves his options open

With over 2,000 Omicron cases in Thailand so far, expert predicts beginning of new wave

With over 2,000 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus detected in Thailand to date according to the Ministry of Public Health, the country is entering a widespread wave of COVID-19 infections in the "next two years", following the long New Year holidays, which will see daily infections spiking into the tens of thousands of cases in the near future, predicted Dr. Manoon Leechawengwongs, a doctor specializing in respiratory and pulmonary diseases at Vichaiyut hospital.

In his Facebook post today, he said, however, that there is no cause for alarm.

Typo in the above should be in the "next two months" I think

I'd argue that not giving testing numbers gives many the impression that there is not really a covid problem.

Here is the issue with them suspending the test and go but keeping the Sandbox scheme on Phuket:

https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/thailand-urges-uptake-booster-shots-omicron-cases-rise-2022-01-04/

A so-called "sandbox" programme, which requires visitors to remain in a specific location for seven days but allows them free movement outside of their accommodation, was also suspended in all places except for the resort island of Phuket.

How is allowing them outside of their quarantine facility/hotel ASQ on Phuket and allowing them to travel anywhere on the Island any different then allowing Test N Go and then testing them on day 5 to 7? They still have the ability to infect others if they have Omicron regardless.

This madness needs to stop.  Either scrap it all or ensure folks pay attention to the conditions, use the Mor Chana App, and are checked on.

They're just not getting it, closing for cleaning does nothing to stop the spread..................

Bangla to close for deep cleanse

PHUKET: Venues on Bangla Rd are being asked to close for 24 hours while the renowned nightlife street undergoes intensive cleaning, and sanitising, to help stave off more COVID infections in the area.

Are the Thai scientific geniuses going to keep quarantining their citizens for an endemic virus that will be with us for centuries?

First time i have heard that scrubbing with bleach is of any use against a respiratory virus passed by microscopic globules.

Surprised no one has mentioned that Thailand's hysterical response is following more of a CCP model than a developed western one.

Apparently, China has locked down 2 cities and confined their citizens to barracks.

Looks good though, a sort of "we are doing something to stop this virus, look it's all clean and virus gone from road".

In my opinion it's all BS. Carry out useless cleaning propaganda stunts at what cost which looks good but reluctant to test publicly because they know it will look bad. Nearly all of the official counted PCR lately have been from walk-ins so shows that officially they are not looking for it, only using ATK where they have to because those figures are not officially counted in the world stats. And as for the "restaurant" rules does anyone believe that every premise is checking customers, highly unlikely and you can bet a lot of the staff infections are going unreported too.
