The Thai government took precautionary steps to prevent and control the spread of the highly contagious African Swine Fever (ASF) when the disease was first reported in China in 2018, said Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana today (Thursday), in response to a threat by the opposition Pheu Thai party to grill the government over the ASF issue in parliament.

 

Because of the steps taken by the government, he explained that Thailand, in the past three years, has been able to reduce the severity of ASF, while many neighbouring countries have sustained serious damage from the disease.

 

He claimed that, since 2018, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has added ASF to the national agenda and has instructed all relevant agencies to take steps to contain the virus, adding that the cabinet has approved over 1.5 billion baht throughout the period to implement plans to prevent the spread of the disease.

And as usual, they have been very effective! ????

"Mass flooding late last year and ASF outbreaks have killed millions of pigs in Thailand, especially breeders, resulting in a shortage of live pigs. Compounded by the rising prices of animal feed and medication, pork prices in the domestic market have jumped sharply, affecting both vendors and consumers."

 

He seems to be saying ASF outbreaks have been a contributary factor in the deaths of millions of pigs in Thailand, which surely contradicts the "No ASF here" line.

So that's

2018-2019

2019-2020

2020-2021

2021-2022

 

That would be 4 years then, not 3...so maths and containing swine flu not the governments strong points.

Another failure then.

Pork prices are thru the roof, 220 baht a kilo for good shoulder meat today. I also noticed a couple of fellas who where inspecting the outlet for hygiene, clip board in hand.

I grabbed a couple of kilo of the product, you never know if the ASF will be pandemic. TiT after all.

Another of the usurpers failures over the last several years, the list is getting longer.

No doubt the cover up of the swine virus has be funded by the usual suspects and donations.

That was the last time when China reported any disease, after that,  everyone is China has universal immunity against any virus...It is so good that China has closed its border so that no one can steal that universal immunity. Thailand is going to do exactly that....

This is probably the extent to the prevention methods used.

So far we had no cases of swine fever, so maybe i shouldn't ridicule that tiny fence at the german borders ????

It took a pet pigs owner to discover that the swine fever was here in Thailand . 

The Vietnam customs refused a consignment of pork from Thailand very recently because of the infected meat from swine flu but nothing was done or said .

Actually Vietnam has controlled imports of live pigs , not pork, at various intervals since May 2021. And Cambodia has banned/suspended live pigs from Vietnam. Trade merry-go-round !

Back at end of 2018 Thailand instituted border controls when swine fever was detected in northern Laos. Swine fever is endemic in nearly every country in South East Asia bordering China
