Thailand is headed for a political crisis with the ruling party unwilling to call a house dissolution while coalition partners and opposition parties are not willing to move forward with matters of governance as the current government assumes a lame duck stance.

Since expelling 21 members of their own party, a faction led by politically powerful MP Thammanat Prompao, earlier this year, the ruling Palang Pracharat Party has been unable to find any cohesion internally with want away factions united only by loyalty to the current prime minister and their fear of party leader General Prawit Wongsuwan.

But with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha weary of his former compatriot Prawit and with rumors that he has already has his allies getting up a smaller party, both coalition partners and opposition parties have sensed the writing on the wall for this government.

Nothing to get excited about here, they will simply be replaced with another lot of puppets.

Poor old Prawit.  In the photo he seems lost without his dead friend's watch.

"Palang Pracharat experiment" should read Palang Pracharat tragedy instead!  What this gov has done for the Thai people and their country is a sick joke.

Is it just me or can anyone else see the excuse of "opposition parties are not willing to move forward with matters of governance" as the perfect reason for the staging of another coup?

I don’t foresee another coup. The 1st Army based in Bangkok that was instrumental in previous coups due of their proximity is no longer commanded by any of the Generals. The 3 Ps have no direct command of the army and the army chief is not from their fraternity. Also the mastermind of previous 2 coups has passed.

A military coup is not needed as there are specific provisions in the constitution, such as:

- the national strategy plan, which is compulsory,

- the national strategy committee, currently headed by Prayut. Government agencies are compelled by law to obey the national strategy committee in order to implement the national strategy.

That's the two I have spotted, but there may be others involving the unelected Senate, etc....

Prawit to Prayut...

For gods sake I told you to stop polishing the crystal ball or you'd drop it one day....

ISOC has oversight of politicians down to the grassroots level, ie., villages.

State of Emergency continues in the Southern Provinces since imposed in 2014.

Former NCPO Chief and current PM Prayut remains as Head of Government, Minister of Defense, Supervisor of DSI and RTP.

Prayut remains as chairman of various agency board of directors.

And as you noted, the Senate was hand picked by a selection committee whose members were selected by Prayut and includes both active and retired military officers, including former consultants to the NCPO selected by Gen. Prayut.

members of the Bhumjai Thai Party, a steadfast coalition ally, was boycotting cabinet meetings to protest the rise of commuter prices

What's wrong? Are they really concerned about a couple of baht rise on the BTS?

Or is it a typo that should read consumer?

There's still hope.

Another fresh coup might brighten things up. Although, similar players will be apart of the age-old theatre.

Not enough in the trough to ensure their continuing allegiance looks like.

Not quite... he is eyeing his friend on the left's gold ring...

The demise of the generals can't come soon enough. Nothing has improved since the 2014 power grab.
