During the debate in parliament today (Friday), the Thai prime minister was accused by the opposition of renewing a goldmining concession in exchange for Australia-based Kingsgate Consolidated Limited withdrawing the ongoing lawsuit seeking compensation from the Thai government for what it regards as the illegal closure of its goldmining operations in Thailand.

In response, the prime minister defended his government’s invocation of Section 44 of the interim Constitution which granted him absolute power to speed up certain processes, to close the Kingsgate Consolidated’s subsidiary Akara Resources Chatree goldmine in Phichit province in 2016 and the recent decision to renew the goldmining concession for the same company.

The prime minister explained that there was a misunderstanding on the part of Kingsgate, in believing that his government had nationalised Akara Resources’ goldmining operations to operate the mine itself.

And there was I assuming it was all a ploy to create conditions where a consortium of "the right people" could buy the mine cheap!

Silly old me!

The mine is still owned by Kingsgate, which will soon re-start production.

Yes, I (we) know.

Some (quite a lot of us) thought that forcing it to close was an attempt to persuade Kingsgate to sell it - as opposed to the misunderstanding over nationalisation which the Prime Minister claims to have been the case.

The only thing verging in Thailand..

 a crime

northern gulf petoleum , is a dormant company until makes the bid for kingsgate , incorpartated in british virgin islands

director chatchai yemabrong  has strong political relations , and was former goverment advisor ( before 2000)

they made an offer for  kingsgate for 0.04 aud... 90% bellow the price of share at this time, with the prommise to restart mine within 3 month ,due to his good relations to the current goverment

offer failled

actual price of kingsgate 1,50 aud  , 40 times higher than the crazy offer

its all about money and enviromental just an excuse for the politicans to get controll of the mine and locking in hudge profits on behalf of politicans

thats today the way to make money , not hard working
