It might still not be easy to move oil via Ukraine if this turns into an insurgent war.

Putin will have to bring in large amounts of military personnel to police what is not a small country.

 

The guy is a madman, but too entrenched to be removed from his post by force. 

 

Let's hope the sanctions have their desired effect.

NEW DELHI, March 2 (Reuters) - At least five superyachts owned by Russian billionaires were anchored or cruising on Wednesday in Maldives, an Indian Ocean island nation that does not have an extradition treaty with the United States, ship tracking data showed.

 

Late on Wednesday Forbes reported that Germany had seized Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov's mega yacht in a Hamburg shipyard.

Russia may well prevail in Ukraine, it's too soon to tell. The haven't been able to deploy air power yet because of the threat of AA defenses. If they do subjugate Ukraine it will be at great expense and Russia will regret supporting the fascist dictator.

who would have imagined that Russia could ever have overwhelmed Ukraine with its superior military forces!

 

As for a surrender, no, Russia should agree to humanitarian corridors as asked for by Ukraine to allow the refugees to leave safely rather than getting killed, those that want to stay on and fight or die will do so.

 

Either that or Russia should agree to a cease fire and get this sorted by dialog, not murder.

Agreed. Russia has already lost out because Europe has lost it's fear of them in conventional warfare. During the Cold War, the fear was the Soviet Union would sweep across Europe in a lightening strike with its advantage of more tanks. Now, the truth is more likely it would get 50 or a 100 miles past its borders before getting bogged down outside the first major cities it encounters.

Fake social media accounts aimed at Ukraine, says Meta

 

The cyber security team at the tech giant -- parent of Facebook and Instagram -- said it blocked a set of Russia-linked fake accounts that were part of a social media scheme to undermine Ukraine.

 

"They ran websites posing as independent news entities and created fake personas across social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Telegram and also Russian Odnoklassniki and VK," Meta said in a blog post.

 

In some cases, "they used profile pictures that we believe were likely generated using artificial intelligence techniques."

There's not much more that NATO can do or this war will go nuclear at the drop of a hat. Europe and much of the USA will be flattened. As BKK observed, another Chernobyl  is imminent as the Russians are shelling Ukraine's largest nuclear power station.

 

Zelinskiy is unlikely to survive the onslaught of Kiev. Of course the Ukrainians will fight on as they can, but Ukraine is not Afghanistan. The terrain is not so accommodating and the cultural background very different. Ukraine's previous PM was interviewed on Sky this morning - toting a powerful pistol and an automatic weapon at his side.

Putin will never relent so all we can hope for is his demise. Germany HAS to stop buying Russian oil and gas NOW and the sanctions should be confirmed to be of indefinite duration. Outside Putin's lunatic circle, many Russians in the military and other enlightened elites, know that Putin has to go - preferably in hail of bullets.

It's hard to watch Ukraine's people suffering without tears in the eyes. A plague on these murderous Russian monsters and let's hope the majority of good Russian people can soon have their Country back.
