Eight older guys in a TV studio seriously discussing destroying civilization as we know it, including Russia itself. As one can see almost every night on Russian TV. Should not be believed.

It's meant to encourage the west to hold back all the help Ukraine needs to actually win. It's working more or less and that's got to change or this war will be lasting forever.

The destroyed sub was commissioned in 2014, almost brand new in sub years, and had the latest Russian technology.  Russian sub B-237  The Russians can't replace it because Turkey is blockading access of warships to the Black Sea.

Those in high positions seem to finish in much lower positions mainly after falling to the ground, though poisoning is also one of Putin's remedies of choice.

 

Ukraine having some good target practise in Crimea

 

This week, Ukrainian forces struck targets in Russian-annexed Crimea on two consecutive nights. Kyiv said it conducted a major airstrike on Russia's Black Sea Fleet Wednesday night, reporting that several cruise missiles struck a landing ship and submarine at its main base at Sevastopol. Both are said to have sustained heavy damage, with Russia's defense ministry saying the vessels will be repaired.

Early Thursday morning, another attack followed. Ukrainian media outlets reported that an S-300, or even more modern S-400 air-defense system was hit in the city of Yevpatoria.

No use!  The side hole directly targeted the engine room, the top hole in front targeted the weapons bay. Not much of value left on this nearly brand new sub.

 

What's truly amazing is the missile hit the side horizontally, at the water line, while the sub was basically in a ditch, and hit the engine room with one meter accuracy.

At some point peace talk will commence. Ukriane is dead centered on regaining Crimea, but they might have to let the Russians have Sevastopol as a naval base, similar to the Americans having Guantanamo in Cuba.

This could be the opening Russia and possibly China have been waiting for. 

There are already sign that a second round of mobilization is coming in Russia so they can reinforce over the winter.

Will China pull the trigger on Taiwan?

Spring has the best weather in the strait, time will tell.

Obama made that mistake.

Give the Russkies an arm, they'll take it all.

That said it would have been massively harder back then to get western allies on-board as they are now.

But Obama didn't even try except to do slap on them wrist stuff.

From the US POv this shouldn't be partisan.

When the war is over, Russia will be trillions in debt with a failed economy, doubt they could rent a beach chair in Sevastopol, much less a naval base.

 

May be better for them to cede Sochi and the Novorossiysk navel base to offset massive war reparations, especially since they'll have little use for a naval base by then.

Obama was very good for the country domestically, not so much for international affairs.  President Biden is much better at the international stuff.

good point but as u said, he should have tried harder, maybe (some of) the allies wouldn't be on board as they are now but facing/challenging Putin would have changed everything

these are well overdue to help the Ukrainians, send them ASAP, later is better then never
