Hi everyone.

Is there anyone here who has experience with the new system, that you have to make an appointment with your local immigration office, eg extension to stay, I think about whether it works or it is a waste of time.

Works fantastic at CW.

Absolute godsend. Can still do walk in, no appointment.

When you make your booking you receive a confirmation email.

Make sure you do hard copy print out to take with your other docs

Thank you for your reply.  Yes Ubon, that's the page I've been to, I just thought I read that you should book an appointment now, but if it's not necessary, I'll just show up.

Like so many things "immigration" here, YMMV.

Imagine some offices manage the new Microsoft Office365 software well, while others may not have been trained yet?

For larger offices like Bangkok/CW an appointment is probably something to be considered. Back in the olden days with the previous appointment system, it worked well. Most reports on the new system seem positive. There are limited slots per day, and those can fill up. You can make an appointment 30-ish days in advance, which does not include the 30-45 day advance a local office might allow, so 60 - 75 days before any deadline.

Yes, it's a mystery to me as to why CW only has six slots a day now for retirement extensions, when under the old appointment system they had them available every 15 minutes, all day. Very peculiar.

I do notice that they now list the time for the service as "one hour", when the actual face time with the IO is usually less than 15 minutes; not sure whether that was intentional, or just a data entry error.

I did my retirement extension at the flash new Buri Ram office last week, and made an online appointment for 10:00.  I've never had to wait any length of time on previous visits, but just wanted to try it out.  I printed a screen shot of the 10:00 confirmation time they'd emailed me and put it on top of my completed forms - they actually sent two emails, once immediately after I made the appointment, and a reminder the day before it was due, giving me some confidence that the system was working.  I arrived there from the bank at 09:30, and there was one other person being attended to.  They collected my paperwork, and obviously checked it out the back, since, as soon as that person was finished, I was sat down in front of an officer and stamp, stamp, stamp, done, walking out at about 09:45.  I asked about the online appointment and was told that, had there been a queue, I would have been first in line to get mine done at 10:00, so worth spending a minute or two on the computer beforehand if there was ever a run on the office.

I never bother. It means you have to time your arrival, and if you have a long journey to make through unpredictable traffic then you have to allow plenty of time, which means you might get there early and end up waiting in any case, or you might be late in which case you look like a reprobate. CW is a great place to hang out in any case - plenty of facilities and can get some exercise walking round and round the track.

Mileage will vary for other offices of course.

Initially they had, I want to say 18 or 24. And they had the time at 15 minutes. Now six slots, 1 hr time estimate.

But then they dropped it to the same as the marriage ext, which typically take longer.

Assume they did it for a reason? Or not.
