Transport officials have confirmed that a series of major roadworks that affect motorists traveling to and from Bangkok and Hua Hin are on schedule for completion.

The ‘Motorway 82’ construction along the Rama II Road is part of an infrastructure upgrade which will boost transportation links between Bangkok and southern Thailand.

Anyone who has traveled between Bangkok and Hua Hin, and indeed anywhere in the south and the Thai capital, will have seen the construction taking place.

For several years, the roadworks have caused major disruptions to journeys on what is a notoriously busy stretch of road in and out of Bangkok.

Imagine if they could have built a high-speed railway line on that route rather than increasing (inevitably) the vast amount of extra car traffic once the road is finished.

It's a traffic version of the Peter Principle:  traffic expands to fill the (new)  space available.

I hardly consider another three years of road works as the end is in sight.

Back in my home state of NJ, I endured years of commuting on Interstate 287 during construction, sometimes adding hours to a drive, within a year after it was completed, the extra lanes were jammed bumper to bumper....so true

not when the elevetated motorway is way off, and with the pressure to return the lanes to usable condition due to traffic, overhead construction is going on above the right lane, the odd of having stuff dropped on your car is dangerously high

It seems the improvements on this road have been ongoing since 1988 at least, the year I first traveled from Bangkok to Hua Hin. They haven't done bad in 33 years.

Reality from article :

"The first phase of the project is Bang Khun Thian to Ekkachai, which covers a distance of 8.3 kilometers and is currently 60 percent complete. This phase is scheduled to be completed by June 2023 (+15 months), Mr Saksayam said. The second phase which covers Ekkachai to Ban Phaeo covers a distance of 16.4 kilometers and is scheduled for completion by January 2025. (+34 months)"
