Mongkhol the monk in a Mazda moans after meds microsleep

Naew Na reported on an accident in Uthai Thani in lower northern Thailand involving a monk who fell asleep at the wheel.

 

Phra Monkhol had to be cut out of his Mazda 323 after colliding with a pick-up at a bend.

He was stuck against his console for 30 minutes before being transported to Lansak hospital. 

 

The driver of the Vigo said that a pick-up in front had swerved out of the way but he couldn't avoid the Luang Pee.

Police said the monk was on his way back to Wat Karort Buang after going to another temple to study.

 

He maoned that his medications for made him fall asleep at the wheel - a condition known as a microsleep or 'lap nai' in Thai.

 

Lansak police are investigating the accident that happened late yesterday afternoon.

 

Naew Na further reported that early on the scene was deputy governor of Uthai Thani Alongkot Korakee who happened to be passing at the time.

Maybe he hasn't learnt to read medical warning labels in Thai, but only Pali or Sanskrit.
