COVID-19: Thailand reports 27,024 new coronavirus cases, 82 deaths, 23,721 recoveries

Thailand on Thursday (March 24) reported 27,024 new COVID-19 cases, 23,721 recoveries and 82 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. 

 

Thursday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 3,450,980 with 24,579 deaths.

 

In December and January, Thailand detected 73 cases of suspected “Deltacron”, a broad name describing variants of the COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2) that contain a mixture of mutations found in Delta and Omicron, but all the patients have recovered, said Medical Sciences Department Director-General Dr. Supakit Sirilak today (Wednesday).

 

He said virologists at the department have decoded the genetic makeup of all the 73 cases and found they could be Deltacron cases, but results of the findings have been sent to GISAID, a global science initiative and primary source headquartered in Germany, for confirmation.*

It is time for Anutin to admit failure and resign. Covid numbers are falling worldwide, and this incompetent has been beaten by Covid and cannot bring it under control. 

 

Was it the choice of the lowest efficacy vaccine on the planet? Was it the initial failure of the program? The highly selective shutdowns which favored the cronies?

Here is the harsh reality, and as much as Thailand has been praising the numbers going down, they actually are going up.  They celebrate every time the numbers go lower with fantastic headlines instead of admitting it is because they do not test enough or because they do not add in the Antigen tests done.  So tired of the claptrap from the government.

 

Hospitalizations, critical care cases and respirators increasing is a sign it's far from over. The deaths are another marker and are just sad when you consider the many unvaccinated who this government has failed.  

 

My GFs cousins was pregnant, 3 months, picked up covid again and has now lost the baby.  Covid is for real and not a minor cold like some posters keep spouting.

I am surprised, I thought things would be getting better by the end of the month.

Unfortunately, Songkran may be a time bomb even with slight decreases before then, all the Thai people visiting families with elderly family members could be a disaster.

Of Course they celebrate the lower numbers... But they appear in the weekends, when there are less tests than normal Everything done to show the Thai people how good they are in handling the covid, but speak with the people in your neighbourhood and you will hear how many Covid there really is. Even the numbers of today are only a fraction of the reality. Example in my street there were 54 new cases on 1 day. That is in 1 street in 1 tambon in 1 amphur in 1  province....

Ex GF, her colleague and a few others around her are all positive.

They aren't registered anywhere as being positive.
Real number is much higher.

Before, I never knew anyone who was positive and now, I know quite a few.

Sense of smell and taste is starting to return this morning.  I can not express how that makes me feel.  As a symptom and effect of Covid it is the one thing I have never experienced in my life.  I can tell you folks that those senses are an important part of daily life and should never be taken for granted.  I know many friends who through radiation therapy for thyroid and throat cancer lost their taste buds and their appetites decreased because of it.....truly sucks.  I wish everyone the best.  I think today is the turning point for us with clearing covid.  we both, the GF and I, are feeling more energy, but will still wait until tomorrow to retest and then if negative we will go out and about.  

 

Talked with a doctor I see, he indicated that after having Covid and more likely the Omicron variant our immunities should be good for at least 6 months and we may or may not need a booster again at that point based upon current on-going research.

Newly reported official COVID cases rose to their second highest daily total of the year on Thursday at 27,024, while serious COVID hospitalizations (1,553) and intubations (583) both increased to again set new record highs for the year.

 

The Ministry of Public Health also reported 82 new deaths from COVID on Thursday, up two from the day before, but slightly down from the yearly record 88 set last Monday.

 

Overall, official new cases, new COVID deaths, serious hospitalizations and the combined total of official and unofficial new COVID cases via ATK tests all marked increases from their comparable figures from one week prior.

 

Total active COVID cases under care (including home quarantine and community care centers) increased to 240,249, just shy of the yearly record high of 240,339 set last Monday.

 

Thursday's report of 27,024 official new COVID cases fell just short of the year's record high tally of 27,071 set last Friday. Thursday was only the second time Thailand's official new case total has exceeded the 27,000 mark.

 

The new yearly high of 1,553 COVID cases hospitalized in serious condition with pneumonia type symptoms means such cases are now averaging 20 per each of Thailand's 77 provinces, though the government said its hospital bed occupancy rate was only 26.4%.

For added context, during the peak of the Delta wave last fall, Thailand's daily COVID case count topped out at 23,418, but the numbers of serious hospital cases and intubated patients peaked above 5,600 and 1,100 respectively, and daily deaths topped 300 for a brief period.

I think it is safe to say that omicron is mild if vaccinated with an "effective" vaccine (and I choose my words carefully) yes there are a few people who seems to be affected worse than others but in the grand scheme of things omicron has been a game changer.

 

What is happening in Thailand is very difficult to understand likely because they keep certain critical factors to themselves in order to cover up this governments poor choices and keep people in the dark. Some of their choices would lead you to think they would rather this not end at all - I see two reasons for that - certain key people are making huge money from covid in Thailand and the other is power and control

Wishing you well.  Just tested the GF, day 11 and she is now negative.  I will take my next test tomorrow as yesterday I just barely had a line at the T and my taste and smell are just starting to come back.

Nonsense. The truth is somewhere in between. How many of those died WITH Omicron, not FROM Omicron?

 

Omicron is mild enough to no longer justify drastic measures that were needed to keep the health system from collapsing in Delta times and previously. Ultimately, that's all that matters, there's no stopping it anyway.

You are definitely one who is in denial.  Just finishing almost a two week bout of Covid, even double vaccinated and boosted I still was hit pretty good and lost my sense of taste and smell, it is not just a cold as so many of you folks want to insist, and it is not mild for those unvaccinated.  You can disagree with me and the others all you want, yet the truth is out there if you would look.

Totally irrational response. Ruining the country for less than 100 deaths per day. Death is sadly inevitable to all of us but many many more die from cancer, heart attacks etc. Like many countries before them the people have been scared in to irrational thought and lost all sense of perspective and risk. How many are killed at songkran on the roads?

Look, Ryan, I'm not in denial at all. Like you, I was triple vaccinated (2x AstraZeneca, 1x Moderna) and subsequently caught Omicron. Milder than yours admittedly, but yours is still considered mild simply because you don't need medical attention and have the energy to mention in at least a dozen posts on here that you're isolating at home with Covid. Your loss of sense and smell is temporary and already showing signs of improvement. Great. Hopefully you'll make a full recovery soon.

 

My point wasn't that it's "just a cold", and nowhere did I say that. My point is that it's pointless to impose measures to prevent people from catching Omicron. Firstly, it's futile anyway, as you and I both know from personal experience. Secondly, there's no justification, because the health system can cope with the caseload of serious cases.

Before I post my report I have a quick yarn for you all. Live in Bang Saphan Noi and went to Chumphon for my Moderna booster. Felt a tad croaky driving home so did a saliva test. Yup, positive! Later on did the nasal swab with the same result. This morning another saliva test was again positive! So off to Virajslip Hospital in Chumphon this morning as that is the closest private hospital. ATK test confirmed it so I am in a Hospitel. Not bad with your own private room and 3 meals a day and nurses available and a doctor video call daily. All for the special offer price of 16,000THB for the required 7 nights. And the reason for doing this is to be able to keep away from our 2 year old son, and the wife and her mother are both negative. Small price to pay for family safety! My symptoms are just a sore throat and lethargic with, as yet no problems with taste or smell.

Anyway, enough about me and here is the update with a small climb from 267 reported on 22nd March.

 

Health officials on Wednesday (Mar 23) reported 276 new COVID-19 cases in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, of which 83 cases were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 44 cases were found in Pranburi, 51 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 2 cases in Kuiburi, 15 cases in Thap Sakae, 28 cases in Bang Saphan, 7 cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 44 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

No new COVID-19 related deaths were reported in the province today.

Well, it looks like its reached my daughter. Her friend at school who she sits next to in a couple of classes was confirmed with it last night, my daughter called me this afternoon from school saying she has a high fever and cough, just got her home and did 2 ATK's both positive. She's ok but high temperature and absolutely distraught as on Monday she was due to have a 3 night school residential trip scuba diving.

 

Now I need to test but no more left so will go to the clinic tomorrow and get them to do one there although I've already got a cough.
