Has anyone imported a motorbike? Any idea of the costs/agents?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about driving my bike across the land border when open from Cambodia and then retiring on a retirement visa. Is it possible to import my bike (its on a cambodia plate) Any advice?

Importing a motor vehicles into Thailand always been and still is a nightmare to deal with, your best bet to contact a shipping or import/export agent and ask them...

Easiest would be to leave it Cambodian registered and bring it in on a temp permit..... would need to border bounce every 12 months though to renew permit.

Would there be a big difference between importing from a country that is part of Asean?

I do know from overseas is impossible now but i would think all countries that are part of

Asean would have an agreement?

I imported a bike from the US about 10-15 years ago and it was a nightmare.

What kind of bike is it?

Why not contact the Thai Embassy in Cambodia and the Thai DLT?

Latest I heard, an amaerican imported his love of life a Harley Davidsen, and thought everything was in order. Bike was confiscated, and ended up buying it back from auction. Two years ago.

He used an agent who fixed all papers, and promised it would be no problems.

The same story has been recycled many times over.

The bike I imported cost B60K in bribes over and above the taxes and I don't know if it ever got legal documentation.

Recycled as in the same scenario has played out with many who have attempted to import.
