Thai Navy to Consider Alternatives to China Submarine Deal

The Burmese came by land, not sea, the last time they sacked Thailand so maybe the Army needs to step up its game from coups against unarmed students and workers to actual foreign soldiers.

Time to be honest with themselves & the Thai people, a submarine would definitely be a nice to have item but in sincerity is it a NEED to have item? who is the country that would invade Thailand by sea??

Not by sea, but by air.
In an elaborate brainstorming process the navy will then decide to opt for anti-aircraft missiles launched from the only aircraft carrier. What is the ploblem?

What credible external threats does Thailand really have?

I think this will be a good get out clause for the government ,with the payment schemes they have had supporting the populous during Covid ,lack of tourist revenue, high speed train project, and now inflation, I would say the coffers are about empty.

Could well be just on hold ?,if they did buy them now would they have the money to run them ,or would they be parked up next to that other white elephant the aircraft carrier .

An old military saying.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.

For want of a shoe the horse was lost.

For want of a horse the battle was lost...

In this case,

For want of an engine, it's a billion baht floating tin can...

They missed their chance by allowing this gem that sat on Patong Beach for a few years to be destroyed, what could go wrong with a concrete sub. :cheesy:

How could they possibly think they would get German engines? On one of my jobs we wanted military grade CCTV and that, despite being a "friendly" country took well over a year and a ton of paperwork to get them.

Total waste of money I’m not sure that the waters of Thailand are deep enough or are they planning on having it sitting in a dry berth so the Admirals can admire it from there white elephant

If a sub was stood end to end it would protrude the water by several meters..Put that in your pipe..

Maybe order a fleet of Chinese lawnmowers to mow all the governments golf courses.

It'll give the new conscripts a break from using scissors.

The sea depth around Thailand severely limits the use of submarines. Also, there really isn't a good reason to even have them. What would they do? There is no clear mission.  Enforce fishing laws?

Surrounding countries already have those. So I'm told ????. One of Thailand's most successive exports.

If they can’t get the subs the top brass will figure out another scam so they can get paid a lot of money in offshore for an account the reason they want this deal to go through as we don’t get through absolutely a lot of money corruption at its best TIT

If you're going to bother to write something why not use a little punctuation so that we understand <deleted> you're trying to say? Because what you wrote was unintelligible gibberish. You wasted your own time.

Siri, how deep is the gulf of thailand?

45 meters.

And yes, your sub is visible by drone, unless covered by an oil spill.

On the plus side, when it sinks the lads can simply swim up to surface to be rescued by the squid fishing crews.

The Manhattan Rebellion, 1951. Led by RTN submariners, but a destroyer was used, HTMS Sri Ayutthaya. And it got stuck at Memorial Bridge which was not raised.

This is why submarines were off the table until the most recent interregnum, and submariners considered persona non grata.

Because of their use, Subs were promptly decommissioned by the Army under Phibun

"The Thai submarine service came to an end following a coup attempt against the military government of Plaek Pibunsongkhram known as the Manhattan Rebellion. The failed coup, led by a group of naval officers on 29 June 1951, led to the Navy's being stripped of its power and influence. The Submarine Group was dissolved on 16 July, and all four boats were decommissioned on 30 November 1951.[8]

The submarines were moored for some time in the Chao Phraya River near Siriraj Hospital Pier, but they were finally sold to the Siam CementCompany for scrap. Part of the superstructure of the Matchanu is preserved at the Naval Museum in Samut Prakan Province, almost the only reminder that Thailand once had a submarine fleet." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matchanu-class_submarine
