Thailand Faces Economic Question: China and EV Cars in Thailand News

His name was @WDSmart

this is the car he wanted. I’ve already sent him the link

Thank you. I remember you sending a link but couldn't remember whether it was the Wuling Air or not.  I was looking through the motoring forum EV threads. Cheers.

I often see quoted in this discussion by people who don’t own a EV in Thailand that EV insurance is crazy expensive and that EVs depreciate at an alarming rate here in Thailand.

So I thought I would post a quote and insured value for one my EVs.

It is an MG HS PHEV X with a 17kWh battery and it’s now 3 years old.

Maybe other EV owners can post their quotes to do a bit of myth busting?

Myth or not, your MG is not an EV it is a plug-in Hybrid.

What is the insurance for the Seal?

Byd Thailand facebook group

Get a special premium for 1st class insurance from Wiraya Insurance Company.

Insurance capital 940,000 baht.

Price is only 25,000 baht.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/bydthailand/permalink/813047220802061

I sure most people know with online insurance quotes you get a basic quote price  with the lowest options regarding person accident insurance , hospitalization and other options and the price increases even if you take the middle of the road options

and lower the capital amount lowers the insurance quote

And here is a similar post

premium 25,400

Capital 960,000 to repair the mall.

I know, they are all just quotes.

I used Atto 3, standard range, 10-15k km, no prior claims, yes to camera, married man, 6 years license, NCB = I don't know..

How did you get such a low quote?

Can you share the details of your 9,681 baht Atto 3 quote?

The postal code isn't that important and this is the lowest I can get.

Yes, the year, 2022 or 2023 makes a little difference but the NCB makes the most:

0% and idk are almost the same but 40% has the most effect

My most likely scenario for an Atto 3 :

Atto 3 ext range 2023

Yes to dash cam, 15k km, personal use, never for work, 0 claims, no finance, married, age 62, 6 years dl, 40% NCB, policy start later, 11,050 baht

9,681 baht for same as above but 2022.

The plot thickness. Using ur numbers, I still get a higher quote than you.

You use 10-15k km?

Can u share the postal code or any postal code that give you the 11,050 quote?

Yes, I tried a few options but it wasn’t able to give a premium for the Performance model.

I tried a Hua Hin postcode and got 12,795 .

Try a 13160 postcode and see what you get.

The cars aren’t even a year old yet. They know that they come with a free first year insurance so maybe we have to wait a few months

We may have to lobby them as a group.  I've been a loyal customer since they started and have never made a claim.  We currently have 3 vehicles with Roojai.

Without Roojai we will be looking at 25,000 baht I suspect.

That’s what I thought initially but it gives me a quote for the Premium model (2023 or 2024 model ) even if I swap the criteria around.

I think ours is 5 yrs free roadside assistance.  Purchased 2022, then in 2023, I think they changed it to 4 yrs, then back to 5 yrs in 2024.

I think there are 5 or 6 of us here with Seal Performance.

It depends what you're comparing a Toyota Cross with, I see it as a competitor to the MG EP+ which is about the same to insure as a Toyota Cross.

Insurance is often related to performance and EV's are generally high-performance vehicles.

MG EP = 7,906 baht

Mazda 3 = 6,479 baht

Both vehicles just under a million as new.

EV is 22% more expensive.

We paid just over 6,000 for our MG EP+
