I've owned several Honda Jazz in the past. Excellent car. Recommended to one of our extended family ... who then had nothing but mechanical trouble from the moment they drove it brand new out of the dealer. Just unlucky and got a lemon.

 

My BYD experience so far (18 months) has been pretty good.

 

It does however seem odd how Thai consumers seem happy to spend a lot of money on a car from some unheard of manufacturer with little obvious track record, simply because it's an EV. BYD at least has a reasonable track record with EVs.

As another poster has explained, that message just says you're not allowed to fiddle with that menu item while driving. Which is irritating. Which is also what my VW tells me if I try to change certain settings while driving.

BYD did this before with the Dolphin, they removed the free wall charger and installation ( offered both for 25k ) and no free servicing only to add those back to the deal again shortly after.

Difficult to keep up with these marketing ploys.

By having that statement they can fend off anyone that recently purchased at pre discount price by saying the terms are different pre purchase price includes Maintenance service, labor, spare parts for x number of years and  free wall charger and installation

there again they may decide to refund recent pre discount owners depending on numbers

when they did the Atto 3 2023 discount in March and April 2024 they did extend that offer to anyone that purchased atto 3 from January 1st 2024 by offering them the price difference from when they purchased 

At the moment anyone that has ordered a Dolphin but they haven't received it yet it makes more sense to cancel the order even if they lose their 10% deposit and place a new order if Maintenance service, labor, spare parts for x number of years and  free wall charger and installation not important to them

Deposits are usually minimal, 10,000 baht typically.

Figure what you want and when you want it, and then shop accordingly. Buying something you do not want when you do not want it because of a "promotion" rarely makes any sense.

In the past buyers were advised by dealer to put down the minimum down payment for a vehicle and put the rest down of finance ( higher the finance amount more commission for the dealership / sales person )

Now finance houses are insisting on 30% down payment and finance loan not to exceed 70% of total cost of vehicle

Latest price reduction means customer will save between B30,000 and B50,000 in down payment depending on which Dolphin model they purchase

It is refreshing to hear from an EV owner that is just enjoying a, hopefully quality product, and not trying to sell the concept while at the same time pimping solar power, by regurgitating false insurance data, fake Saul Goodman lawyer claims or simply keeping the cherry 🍒 season open all year around.

Your and Pib's journey will be interesting to follow over the next 10 years and hopefully giving us an honest insight into any maintenance issues. 

 

All car manufacturers are in the business of profit. Japanese, Korean and European car makers have over time build a brand identity around reliability. It is just in the Chinese DNA to hide and deny, rather than investigate and improve. Time will tell if the tears 😢 we are seeing now will evaporate over time and the new manufacturers get their business in order. The jury is still out.

If you do a search in Chinese simplified you and Arthur Brown might be staggered in the results that you find

if you do a search for vehicle recalls in Thai you will only find a single site and the only recall is for airbags for May 2022

Yes lots of recorded recalls in China In Europe there is a recall database

if someone is the 2nd owner of a vehicle they wouldn't receive any recall notification from the Brands more so if they don't service the vehicles at an approved dealer workshop

would you be happy to pay for a part replacement that you later found out was subject to a worldwide recall and you the replacement part should have been fitted free of charge

Peeked at GWM's Ora Good Cat & 07.  Both very nice, and never paid much attention to them.   Just the negative BS, 'chickie car'.   OGC was very solid, and had that quality sound when closing the door.   Impressed and wasn't expecting it to be so pleasing.  Well fitted out.

 

Again, not understanding why anyone would bother the imports from JP, or 'made in TH' entry vehicles.

 

Those interested should take a peek at the all, GWM, BYD, MG & NETAs for budget conscious.

07 didn't do much for me,  but didn't peek too hard at.  Didn't care for the outside, so no need to peek inside.  OGC just happen to be on display as I exited Robinsons, so too convenient, and really did surprise me.

FWIW, I saw two BYD Atto 3s today. I'm in a small northern English, pretty run down, seaside town. I didn't expect to see any BYDs at all on this trip but was quite surprised to see two in one afternoon of walking around. No idea how much they cost here though.

Seems they have quite a few dealerships already. And like I said, advertising heavily - they obviously have a plan.

interesting to find out the thai made specs of models currently sold  , differences if any and Sale prices since it is made locally.

When GWM started selling Thai built Ora's in January 2024 there was price reductions ranging from B99,000 to B187,000 difference from the imported versions

From a marketing point of view Byd might want to take the standard Dolphin below the B500K market which would affect Neta V and Wuling potential sales or they choose to wait for release of Seagull to enter below the B500k market

I thought the Atto 3 (410) model was Thai made, apparently not.
