Electric Vehicles in Thailand

I keep reading about governments discounts for EVs - where can I find out about them?

Thanks

They are already built into the prices. The subsidy goes directly to the manufacturers and they don't offer much real discount at all apart from the MG 4 and maybe a few other models.

Your assumption Thailand will follow, is I believe, false.   Two completely separate markets with separate circumstances.   What kickstarted the EV revolution here was BYD & GW

I don't understand why people love SUVs so much. But as with many things, it's personal preference....

SUV fan myself, and have a small one (B class).  Actually not sure why it's even called an SUV.  SUV to me, is a Fortuner size vehicle, and I really don't want or need to drive something that big.  Parking in TH sucks as it is, with our short SUV (4323 mm x 1809 mm x 1649 mm)

I don't slide into a sedan like I used to.  Like the added headroom, which means a lot more glass & visibility.  Sit a wee bit higher, and don't feel like I'm sitting in a hole.  Definitely need the extra cargo area, as we take a lot with us on O&As.

Thanks It's the MG 4 I'm looking at (they say lifetime warranty on batteries I believe)

I guess that depends on the meaning of lifetime eh.

Right...I think they defined "lifetime" as until they discontinue the model.

Also worth bearing in mind that it only guarantees the battery capacity to 70% of the original capacity.

I wonder exactly what is MG's definition of "Lifetime."

Google AI says it's the "lifespan as determined by MG."    Is MG's definition forever, 10 years, 7 years, discontinuation of the model, etc....etc...etc.  I've never seen the "details/fine print" posted anywhere.

And when doing some more Google AI searching regarding MG warranty provisions for "discontinued" models I get below.

So, both the IM5 and IM6 released in the U.K., here’s a comparison video.

Both nice looking cars but the 5 gets my vote for the external looks, the rear end in particular is stunning in this blue colour.

IMG_9271.png.45c7d08f3ca8c13999642be44ab8e5b9.png

A few Seal/Sealion comparisons in the video, the 5 is quicker off the mark and has a better driving feel while the 6 is way ahead in storage space.

The 5 beats the Seal for rear storage and the hatchback opening is an advantage but it does have a pitiful frunk ….. 18ltrs !!

Interiors are very similar, slightly more space in the 6 and the benefit of an additional screen that drops down from the roof to entertain the rear passengers.

Cons for me are the additional screen in the centre console which could be distracting as is low down and as the rear view  is poor  you can bring up the rear view camera onto the main screen ….. why not just send the rear camera ( or an additional rear camera ) to the rear view mirror ??

For us practical people who don't need more power than one can actually use here, TH ...

And look at that, a bit cheaper than AU ...

Yes the lower segment is more price competitive. Perhaps they actually pass on the government discount for the cheaper models.

The MG S5 does look quite practical but surprisingly I haven't seen any on the road in Bangkok yet.

New model, and just last month started registering.  Rumored the ZS replacement, and quite believable, as ZS also rumored to be only available as hybrid.

Here’s another price reduction:

Seen a fair few of these around and must say that they look pretty cool. Seems like  the Jeep/Mini Hummer type EV gamble is paying off.

Although a quick glance at the specs tells me they are quite underwhelming, both 2WD and 4WD.

I haven't noticed one on the roads but they do seem to be selling well according to registration data.  16th best selling EV in Thailand for Jan-Jun 2025.

To me a couple of interesting (i.e., caught my eye) sales/registrations for this calendar year;

1.   BYD Seal (sedan) registrations have sharply dropped since release of the BYD Sealion 7 (basically the SUV version of a Seal)

2.   BYD Atto had a big comeback for June

3.  Tesla Model Y has seen big increases for May and June...probably due to price reductions and people not as PO'ed at Elon.

4.  Neta V still selling at a steady rate despite Neta financial issues in China and other countries....hopefully it will work out for the company.

In this article is states

it is stated that due to the financial situation of NETA Auto (Thailand) Co., Ltd., there are outstanding payments with EV Fast Co., Ltd. and EV Pacer Co., Ltd., and this has affected the registration of NETA electric vehicles.

However, the company has sold and registered approximately 5,000 vehicles so far. In June 2025, approximately 300 outstanding vehicle registrations were registered and delivered to customers. All are expected to be completed by June 2025, with the latest delay being July 15, 2025.

For that money I would buy a GR Corolla.

Begs the question - how many Benz buyers are cross-shopping between a Toyota and an EQS?

How about 1/3 off the normal price !!

IMG_7098.jpeg.d2047815ca765f93582cbf9e51bfa258.jpeg

An Activity/Display car means it was used for Test Drives or Showroom/Motor Shows so not a new car ( possibly as far back as Nov 2023 ) and will probably have a small amount of mileage.

But still, that’s a big chunk of change off ….. and the neighbours will be jealous !

It's more likely selling off dead Bodies from the Grave Yard.

Ridiculous price to begin with and still overpriced (also quite ugly imo).

I once drove an Ora GoodCat and the steering wheel was made of some kind of flimsy plastic and felt very hollow.

Vehicle registrations for June 2025.   The BYD Atto had a BIG month....big increase compared to previous months.  BYD Dolphin still the king of the hill for the latest month and also so far for this year closely followed by the BYD Sealion 7.   See below 30 July 2025 autolife article partially quoted below.

BYD ran out of steam in July.

On the chart is the 1st month Jan and the latest "blue" column for June or July?   Based on your remarks I assume its July?   If correct and since the autolife article was reporting "June" vs July registrations what reference are you using for your July numbers like the BYD 3,262 for year 2025  blue column?.....DLT stats maybe?
