will it break the record of 66 (?) units sold in thailand by the previous bev model? 😂

Tesla have just launched the budget Model 3 Standard at a competitive price in Thailand. It looks quite good value for money now after the Chinese brands raised their prices.

Teslas also have much better efficiency, longer range and faster charging compared to BYD models available in Thailand.

The great, great majority of those 66 or so bz4x Thailand regristrations a year or so ago occurring in Dec was some smoke & mirrors Toyota accounting to clear their Thailand books/inventory. Toyota probably did a mass sell to their Thailand pre-owner/zero mileage subsidiary or to some foriegn wholesaler. Thailand bz4x inventory zeroed-out...the bz4x left the Thailand market only to come back in 2025 to give it another try....a try that's flying like a lead ballon.

BYD Seal Battery Lifetime Warranty has been approved, so we will be keeping it as our GT car for the foreseeable future.

My 7 seater BYD M6 is a year old and my 2 year old is doing his very best to destroy it. Our car wash guy complained so much about the crumbs ground into the free car mats so we have swapped them for fitted rubber mats.

We have him booked into a private school in a couple of years and the wife is concerned that the M6 will not be able to complete with all the Toyota Alphards 🙄

I see Denza has a new D9 for 2026 and now that BYD has purchased 100% of Mercedes' stock the BYD logo appears. My local BYD dealer doesn't stock it but it can be ordered.

He probably won't be able to compete alchemically either if he has more of your wife's genes than yours?

So they are saying no employee discount . Or he has already used up his discounts?

Nice little summary of the main drivers of BYD price increases for 2026 -- subsidies and/or excise tax which affect different models differently. Of course subsidies/excise taxes will have similar affects on other brands/models; not just only BYD.

I wonder if the best year to buy an EV price-wise was 2025 (i.e., the good ol' days)....the sweet-spot year due to a combination of price-war, subsidies, and tax.

https://www.dsf.my/2025/12/byd-stock-clearance-pricing-in-thailand-as-subsidies-set-to-expire/#:~:text=The%20transition%20from%20the%20government's,available%20until%20December%2031%2C%202025.

The End of the THB 150,000 Subsidy

The transition from the government’s EV 3.0 program to the EV 3.5 scheme marks a major shift in the local automotive landscape. Under EV 3.0, popular models like the BYD Dolphin and Atto 3 were eligible for a maximum subsidy of THB 150,000. From 2026, these locally produced models will see their support slashed to a maximum of THB 50,000.

Furthermore, imported models—including the Seal, M6, Sealion 7, and the luxury Denza D9—will face a double impact: the complete loss of the current THB 75,000 subsidy and a sharp increase in excise tax rates, which will jump from 2% to 10%.

I'm fairly sure the excise tax on EVs is still reduced to 2%.

Low emission HEVs and PHEVs with a large battery have just had excise tax reduced to 5% so expect some good deals on these going forwards.

@JBChiangRai bought one and posted about it in the Seal thread ( i think ).

Anyway, that prompted me to buy one around a year ago.

Cost around 600 baht from Lazada, have never had need to use it but when i remember to charge it up it seems to hold its charge for months on end.

IMG_8193.png

Couldn’t find the one JB bought and this one has since been discontinued, make of that what you will !

I do have one, I'd forgotten I posted about it.

When we sold my daughter's Ciaz a couple of weeks ago, I found it in the trunk.

Note to self: check it out and charge it if necessary

It's flat as a pancake (British idiom), I'm attempting to charge it.

The entire plastic case has gone very sticky, is there a solution for that?

Prompted me to take a look at mine, comes in quite a nice plether case and still has full charge ( don’t remember when i last charged, 2 or 3 months at least ).

Reminds me that in the Seal the 12v ( LFP ) battery is under the rear seat but there is facility to jump start from the Frunk area.

Not sure how it is in SL 7 @motdaeng @carlyai but is worth while familiarising yourself with the procedure, could be different to what you are used to.

Back in Feb 2024 I bought the 12000mah version of below Baseus 10,000mah Car Jump Starter/Power Bank. See Lazada link at bottom for the 10,000mah version....I don't see the 12,000mah version listed anymore/out of stock. I bought this Baseus jump-starter as I know Baseus use "quality, long lasting batteries" that will last a long time and actually pump-out their rated amperage. 12V jump-starter come in many different sizes, levels of quality, and prices.

I tested the Baesus jump-starter on my 2009 Toyota Fortuner "3.0L diesel engine" and it starts it no problem...spins the starter/engine really fast just like a new, full size 12V battery. The engine was completely cold, had been setting for weeks when I did the test. I started it 3 times in succession and the jump-starter still reflected over 70% charge remaining.

The short jumper cable assembly comes with a "built-in safety-30 seconds timer relay" along with a fuse which applies power for 30 seconds after connecting to the battery before disengaging....this is to ensure a person doesn't continue trying to start an engine for more than 30 seconds which would put way too much strain on "any" jumper-starter as the jump-starter has been pushing out hundreds of amps in trying to start the vehicle. But if you do want to crank again for another 30 seconds you just disconnect the short jumper cable and immediately connect back to the battery as this resets the safety time relay. However, if the vehicle don't start after 30 seconds of cranking you shouldn't continue to attempt the use "any" jump-starter otherwise you may damage the jump-starter pack. These jump-starter packs are designed for "brief" use as the pumps out hundreds of amps to crank an engine; they are not designed for crank an engine for minutes and minutes at high amperage like a full size 12V battery.

Note: A lot of lower cost jump-starter packs do not include that safety time relay in their short cable assembly (they only include a fuse) to protect the jump-starter. If you want/need a short jumper assembly with only a fuse in it that allows the jumper-starter to continuously apply 12V you can buy seem for less than a Bt100....I bought one so I could also use the Baesus jump-starter pack to "continuously" apply 12V to keep the vehicle powered to prevent loss of vehicle settings as I completely disconnected the 12V battery to clean its terminals, run a capacity test, swap out the battery, etc., which can take several minutes to do. So, I have two sets of cables for my Baesus jump-starter....one with "30 second safety relay with fuse" and another "with fuse only."

You can also use the jump-starter as a USB power bank. Now this is a top quality jump starter....quality battery inside. Supposedly after charging it will retain at least 85% of it charge after 1 year. I know every 3 months or so I turn the jump-starter on to check the capacity percentage reading and it's always been 98 or 99% state of charge....has very low self-discharge. I just checked the Baesus jump-starter after being turned of for several months and it reflected 99% charge remaining.

I also bought a carrying case for my Baseus jump starter since it didn't come with a case. I bought an instrument case like below which fits the Baesus jump-starter and its accessories perfectly. Sorry....I couldn't find an active Lazada link....below is just a snapshot I what I actually bought almost two years ago. But whatever jump-starter you decide on may come with a case.

Edit

And here is the Lazada link of the one I actually bought...but its out of stock....back in Feb 2024 I paid Bt1891 including shipping for it....bought it off the Baesus Factory Store on Lazada Maybe it's still available in other Lazada stores.
