Eight years on: Thai PM in jocular mood - he's fed up with "work, work, work"

Thailand's prime minister and defence minister Prayuth Chan-ocha was in jocular mood when he went on a visit to Hat Yai in the south yesterday.

 

The former general turned Thai PM - still in place since grabbing power in a coup in 2014 - was responding to questions about the current political climate.

 

He reminded the press and public present that the next PM will come from the ranks of MPs. 

 

The public should choose them well as they will chose the next leader who is the most important person of all even above ministers, reported Thai Rath.

Asked if people hate him he said with a twinkle in his eye:

 

"I'm fed up being PM. From the moment I wake up to when I go to bed its work, work, work.

 

"I can't sleep through worry and if I do I wake up in the night it's to worry some more".

 

But he said that seeing everyone's smiling faces today would give him a good night's sleep.

 

All this prompted a chorus from the public of "We choose you Uncle Too", using the PM's nickname. 'Too' means to grab by force.

 

"Only me?!" he responded."What about democracy and everyone else". 

 

The PM called for an end to political squabbling on his trip to the south.

This is true.

But in Thailand , the one who has the biggest stick always wins.

It's common,  from top to the bottom here.

What a shame they could all be,  so much more.

What some people here don't seem to know or like to ignore is the question why Prayut is in charge, and why the coups happened.

 

If Thaksin and his little sister would have worked for Thailand and the Thai people then maybe they would still be in charge. But this is not what happened. Thaksin was very corrupt and his little sister did what he told her to do. They both robbed Thailand. And they are both wanted criminals.

Prayut did a lot of the work to remove those corrupt criminals. Thank you Prayut.

Obviously he is far away from perfect and I hope he will retire and enjoy the rest of his life.

And if the Thai people want an honest and competent government then they should vote for honest and competent politicians. Voting for Thaksin, Thaksin's party or just another Shinawatra won't bring progress. It will only continue the Shinawatra corruption and the division of the country.

I have some advice for you Cha Cha. The entire nation is fed up with you. And since you are fed up with the little bit of work you do, go ahead and resign. You promised you would bring happiness to Thailand. You might not remember, as it was so long ago. It was about the time you promised to hand over control after 2 years. So, go ahead and do it. Nothing would make your people happier. Let the nation move forward from the Jurassic era.

Just shows how out of touch he is with the people. Using emergency decrees to supress political protests. He doesn't like any challenge ("political squabbling"). What serious world leader would ever say they were "fed up being PM"? OMG! 

 

There are far fewer "smiling faces" now than when he grabbed power in 2014. 

 

Free and fair elections are needed. Unlikely anytime soon. ????

,,,, yes, the Thai people and the farangs will remember corruption, his hesitation fighting the Covid, his militäray governing style with no respect for different oppinons, his hastily flight to China for "good miliitary" advices, thanked by ordering the Chiese submarines.

 

And all his actions acommpanied by CORRUPTION !!! This is very obvious when you look back at the crazy test & Go scheme, the Thai pass etc. People with some brain recognise that all these overpriced schemes have been full of corruption, accompanied by higher than normal prizes. Guess where the money went to? To people now billionares with a "low" monthly salary of +200.000 THB or less.

 

And most important, you forget every time that he  has got his job by a coup, a criminal action. He should stay in prison in a normal democracy.

Did I write anywhere that all the other Thai politicians are honest.

No, I never wrote that because I agree that at least most of them are corrupt.

Personally I liked Abhisit and I think he is personally not corrupt. But lots of people in "his" party are corrupt.

 

I think one of the issues with the Shinawatras is that they were pretty much corrupt in the open. It was obvious, at least to everybody who paid attention, that they worked more to enrich themselves then any work for Thais and Thailand.

 

Unfortunately the Thai masses vote again and again for the same corrupt and criminal politicians. And if anybody of them is banned from politics then the masses vote for the brothers and sisters and children of the corrupt politicians. And somehow some voters think doing that will improve Thailand and their life. Strange!

You seem to know all the details - or at least you think you know them.

So how about Thaksin and his family? Did they do everything correct? Was there any corruption involving them?

Or is that so long ago that you don't remember or that was before your time in Thailand?

There wouldn't have been any coups if the Shinawatras would have worked for Thailand and not their own pockets.
