Phuket Airport Area, Catch Bus to Krabi?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Is there a way to catch the big bus to Krabi right from the Phuket Airport district?  The main bus terminals all seem to be far away south from the Airport, opposite direction as Krabi (airport hotel quoted 650b to taxi to bus terminal).  I'm wondering if we have to taxi down to the bus terminals, to then just bus back up where we just were, or is there a "bus stop" near the Airport district that will pick up passengers on their way to Krabi?  We will have luggage, we are a family of four.

We live in America.  I have a Thai wife from Krabi, and two kids.  We used to live in Krabi, but never been to Phuket.  You would think she might know this, but nah, not a chance! I have to figure it all out as if she's from Iceland or Kenya ????

Thanks,

Scotty

So you travel with 4 persons? How much is the bus? Maybe 200 per person, so 800 in total?

Phuket airport to Krabi town is 140kms, if you use the Bolt app to book a taxi this trip probably costs 1500 baht or so. 700 baht extra for no hassle with a bus, in my opinion that's worth it.

FriendlyFarang that's a solid idea I will look into that, thank you.

WOW , I never realized it was so far.

Transport is something which can easily be arranged on the day...

Ferry is also an option and worth looking into... Its about 2 hrs 15 mins I think...

The problem with Ferry’s in Thailand - it's difficult to find out information online.

All of that said: A family of 4, with luggage etc...  The best option is simply to hire a van.

Spend YOUR MONEY, EAT and SLEEP!

One option would be to go north from the airport, cross the Sarasin Bridge, and get to Khok Kloi bus terminal (about 5km the other side of the bridge).   It seems to be a fairly large terminal.   Sorry, no idea of timetable or costs.

I don't think it would be wise to do all this after a long flight from the USA.  OP, do yourself a favour and treat yourself and your family the comfort of a booked family van to go to Krabi, door-to-door.

Fully agree.   Seems pretty miserly/penny pinching to plan a bus rather than the security of a private taxi/van.   My option would be a one way car hire.

UPDATE - my wife doesn't like the mini van rides.  Too fast, too cramped.  I think we are stuck with the bus.  Maybe price Bolt once we are there and show her that.  She has also sworn off the ferry, she thinks it is too windy/dangerous in June.  I think she is naturally gravitated towards whatever is the most complex and costs the most.  It's a gift ????

I can't argue there, I do tend to be that way when visiting Thailand.  I think it's a natural defense mechanism from paying the "skin tax" so many times.

Not the ‘public mini’ vans.....   a private hire van... Your space, your comfort, your times etc...

A private van is by far the best option and it unlikely to cost a significant amount compared to flights etc (i.e. 3000 baht tops at a guess).

A public bus is going to be a PITA and will involve taking luggage to a bus station / from a bus station at destination etc...

Your comment about the seat-state and ferry is a fairly valid point.

Richard gotcha, thanks for clarification.  A private car/van would be an nice option, if I could convince her.   We've taken 'public' mini-bus rides before, and they usually pack in 10-12 people, but if it's just us that would make a difference.  I will check Bolt or another means once we are in our Phuket hotel.  We arrive at night so are staying one night at a Phuket hotel near the airport, heading to Krabi the next day.

pagallim thx - if she nixes any type of van/taxi for her own reasons, I will look into this.  I'd at least rather take a taxi in the right direction to catch a bus at the terminal ????

Can you change your flight to go directly to Krabi International Airport?

The inter city buses dont go past the airport terminals.

The nearest place to catch the bus to krabi is at the airport junction underpass on the 402 which is about 6 kms from the airport.

A taxi, tuk-tuk, motorbike or walk from the airport to the 402 main road.

The bus stop is on the northbound carriageway BEFORE the underpass. Buses usually pull up anyway but be prepared to flag it down as it comes flying round the bend.

Theres only 3 routes when they leave the island north ranong, east surat thani or south krabi so shouldnt be a long wait for the right bus.

We priced it awhile ago and flying direct to Krabi was significantly more expensive, especially for 4 tickets.
