Siam Rath reported from Muang district police station in Chachoengsao yesterday where the top brass announced the results of a crackdown on young street racers and their parents.

They had a large vinyl sign that proclaimed their proactive policing to stop street racing.

From 3rd to 5th June a total of 35 bikes were confiscated. Police would only return them to the owners when illegal modifications were reversed to factory specs.

All the young people - caught meeting for races at gas stations and convenience stores - had their particulars taken.

Action was taken against five parents.

Bike shops that sell illegal parts and modify and detail bikes were part of an information drive.

Noisy exhausts that were taken off the bikes would be crushed later, reported the media.

Just love all the old moaners on here. Never did anything remotely exciting in their youth. Or are hypocritical and complain about the youth of today whilst boring everyone in the bar by recalling stories of their youthful antics.

Talking about yourself again are you ??

Would be nice to hear about the central Thai or local governments apportioning funds and projects like leisure centers, parks, sports fields, etc to the youth and general population, other than the same old shopping malls, mega-stores, etc.

So a 3 day shutdown yields 11 bikes a day on average. These aren't all just kids puttering around with loud exhausts. There are some groups that ride (flog their bikes) through the area I live in during the night and they must be absolutely flying because I can hear the bikes screaming as they are red lined and I hear them scream past in seconds and go straight through a major intersection with zero chance of stopping or slowing if the lights are red. I ride a motorbike and I love riding but this is riding that should be happening at Burriram not downtown Bangkok. I hear the loud muffler knobs that think noise equals power but they aren't riding fast and are generally just a pest. The hyper speedsters are the issue, both for themselves and others.

They'll be all right. When did you ever see the police out after dark, unless attending an accident?

Only 3 days work ,what about the rest of the year or doesn't that count?

Examples please of how we used to ignore noise limit laws, and how we used to blast people's eardrums and endanger people on the streets.... Even something equivalent....

It's a common day and night nuisance here in Phuket and it has passed a level of "enough is enough" a long long time ago. Unfortunately, not one policeman to be seen at night. Sure, we did some weird things as kids, but we always had respect of our parents and police........ The fines were quite harsh, I might add.

When will there be a crackdown against idiots who try to drive while they play with their mobile phones?

And will such a crackdown include people in luxury cars?

I see those idiots all the time and it seems the police just doesn't care at all.

And how about a crackdown of people who drive their car in already congested junctions? Fine them!

Guess some people never road Harley's with straight pipes, played in rock bands or raced  60's street cars

What a joy for the basement key board warriors under their blue roofs.

Police will only retrn the bikes when the modifications have been taken off they said

..

How can the modifications be take off if the police have impounded the bikes ??
